Feel free to insert those old truck pics anytime, fascinating to me to see what trucking used to be and the pride they had in the equipment.

those are hard to beat. A 56 Pete of any kind is hard to beat. That 850 was it a double boom with two winch lines or did that start with the 1000?
Old wreckers intrigue me but i honestly know 0 about them. I guess when the goal is stayin off the hook its hard to learn. its amazing what some them old split boom operators could do before the rotator.

It started as electric over air controlled winch and traditional split boom with gear driven winches.

The guy I worked for hired a genius metal man by the name of Duane Hubbs from Shoshone Idaho to build a hydraulic squirt boom (non- rotator) and complete deck body including blade to stick in the asphalt on the back. My task was to wire everything up. Old Duane ran a hydraulic motor to run the winches and boom. The beauty of that was that you could stall the winches at lower RPM, which told you that it was time to add snatch blocks. At higher RPM there was no stopping the winches. As I recall we ran 3/4 inch cable. They put a 400 Big Cam II in it with a 10 speed and 3 speed Brownie. The truck had fully functioning louvers for temp control in front of the radiator too. Let me dig around and see if I can fine more pictures.

This was in Jackpot Nevada. Driver had parked in the Club 93 casino parking lot on the west side of 93, and failed to set his brakes. Truck rolled down across the highway and into one of the low level rooms of Cactus Pete's on the east sid of the highway.

Somewhere I have a picture of the 56 from the front but I'll be dipped if I can remember where right now. I'll run across them sooner or later.
