you might be able to go through orientation but I'm sure you'll need it before you can go out with a trainer.
What if he picks up a hazmat load while you're with him?
You'll also need a "TWIC" card. And they're even more expensive then Hazmat. But I think they'll let you slide a little bit on that.
Do you have a passport?

The TWIC and Hazmat endorsements are not required until 90 days after you have your own truck.
Looks like I will be on my way this weekend, still thinking of driving though. I am not too keen on riding a bus from Nashville to Des Moines.
I suppose my biggest question now is per mile or by percent? -
Fyi CSA 2010 has nothing to do with the new DOT physical requirements they are proposing. There are no new regulations in CSA 2010 it is just a way for them to monitor
company and driver safety ratings.MrMustard Thanks this. -

yeah, having to crawl under the truck to check the brakes seems to just be a way to weed out the chubbies.
I wonder if there is a "fat-ism" discrimination they can be held against, since we all know TMC is image oriented.Orlandodriver Thanks this. -
As far as the cpm vs %, they give you a sheet to track each load you haul with your trainer and you can compare cpm to %. Looks like % is the way to go as you can increase your percentage much more easily than your cpm. -
yea I am in Des Moines now, I had a girl I know take me up here we are hanging out in the Hampton Inn now.
Not a bad town so far a lot like Nashville looking forward to getting this orientation over with and getting on the road. Having a good time so far though but she will be headed south tomorrow night. There is something about sharing a hotel room with another guy I am not liking.
Some good news is that my training school is pro TMC almost all of our instructors are former employees so almost all the guys I graduated with will be up here soon.
Ill give updates as time goes on.Swaps Thanks this. -

I was 5'9 and around 275 when I started orientation, between not eating with my trainer and sweating all spring and summer I got down to 240. I carry it well (so I'm told) so I def didn't look 275. this was 2 years ago though. I think the biggest thing is being able to get up on top of loads to tarp or use edge protectors, when I started I couldn't get on top of a 4' load of lumber, now I can get up on top of a 5' or taller load of drywall or MDF no problem. getting on the trailer is easy, it's getting on the load that sucks somethimes. I don't agree with some of TMC's policies, but they want you to be able to do your job and do it safely and avoid workman's comp injuries because you destroyed your knees or something.
I have only ever seen one huge TMC driver, and he was a specialized guy so he had likely been there a while. I see some sickening looking truckers at truckstops. drink protein shakes, lift weights in your truck, try to walk whenever possible, that's my advice. tarping this summer should keep you in some sort of shape. spend some time down south if you want to lose weight. -
