The truck driver that couldn't read English should never have gotten his CDL issued to him to begin with. Although, the truck driver may have tested for his CDL in another language.

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

The absolute sheer driving force of our national economy - without truck drivers, our entire national economy would come to an absolute standstill - if not outright be dead.

Over the mountains, through the woods, into the valleys, coast to coast, from sea to shining sea - truck drivers can and do go anywhere and everywhere, every day, every night, all year round.

Whatever you say man. You're entitled to how you feel as am I. I'm just as much invested in this industry as anybody, and I guarantee you that this won't make things safer. All the things you've laid out in this post, i cm tell you it isn’t solely a foreigner issue. Nobody reads signs, American or not. You can't get anybody out of a GPS. You can't get anybody to read an atlas anymore. So my opinions come from a different place. I actually don't use a GPS and still use an atlas. I watch people catch exits at the last minute because the GPS tells em. I watch people ignore "Left Lane Closed 1 Mile" signs daily, and people wait til we're out of real estate to get over. 4 wheelers and trucks alike do this nonsense. Don't get me started on the texting. So yeah, I have a hard time believing this ordeal will make the roads safer, because all drivers do the same nonsense on these highways. So once you shut down the foreigners, THEN WHAT?

Are you saying that this industry hasn’t gone downhill in the last 9 years?

Never said he couldn’t read English. He was a citizen from Nebraska. He couldn’t read, period. As far as obtaining his license? Who knows how that was accomplished.

Stolen from a friend’s facebook page.

Following a GPS or not if you can read English this is gonna get your attention. Some will still follow the GPS. That’s ignorance. That will weed them out soon enough only to be replaced by another person with same IQ.

I ask though of the drivers that can’t read or understand English how many are truly ignorant? If they understood that sign how many would opt to take the truck accepted route? How much safer is that for those on that road.

Another example would be 40 being washed out and closed. If they could read and understand then a large amount of those guys would have made a better decision and not put themselves as well as the locals in danger.

To say that being able to read and understand our language isn’t going to make a difference is ludicrous and makes me wonder how I can honestly take you serious.

A left lane closed sign sure everyone ignores because they are in a rush to get nowhere. They feel rushing to the front is going to make easier on THEM. Again pure ignorance, but again if they could read and understand how many would do the right thing?

Back in the day you had the option of the examiner reading the test to you. I know a couple a guys that could read but not great. Maybe 6th grade level or so. It made testing hard for them. I’m sure the guys that couldn’t read at all fell into that same bracket.

Well don't take me serious then lol.....I think we just assume that every foreigner can't speak or read English, based on their name or appearance. You see a couple of videos on here in which a handful have trouble communicating, and we automatically assume that they can't speak English. I'm just of the opinion that the bigger issue is blatant disregard for signs as opposed to English proficiency, and many of the foreigners get proficient in English. It's cool though. We have differing viewpoints concerning thus, and we'll just disagree here.

If the people who think it’s no big deal if people can read signs or communicate here, I wonder if they feel they could operate a truck safely in a foreign place, say Columbia or Venezuela?

That’s not a fair question because it’s more dangerous there.
