Seriously? What company is going to send out a non-English speaking driver if he’ll be put OOS at any inspection? It’s not like he can drink a can of “English soda” and be put back into service. It’s fly another driver out there to rescue the truck and load.

some outfits will, I’m sure, but not many.

Doesn’t really matter what happens in court three months later, does it?

Way too many. That's who. I was working as a forklift mechanic at my last job and I also did the receiving. Many times per week drivers would come in and hand me their phone preloaded with a translation app or Google Translate web page.

Most of the others made no effort except for a single key word like, "delivery", "truck load" or "pick up". It was a joke. Literally no English knowledge at all.

I would routinely test every one of them to see who was faking and who wasn't. At least 60 percent of total trucks entering our yard knew zero English.

I would guess that most are gonna be looking for local work. Doubt most can do OTR and more than likely they will be power only if they do anything. Not gonna change that much as most will just wait it out or go out of business.

Hell in my experience with OTR I have seen about 30 percent that cannot speak English. This is gonna put a lot of trucks out of service in the Red States. They will most likely stay in the blue states and no one will touch them.

This has a chance to really raise rates on the spot market. Also think that the brokers will be worried about this as well. If they have loads that need to be delivered on time it will be a must for them to have drivers that speak English. I am betting this is gonna spike the rates on the spot market more than most people think.

I had this issue many years ago when I ran a shop. It has gotten a lot worse since then. I get told by lots of the shipper and delivery people that they have a major issue with this. If truly enforced this is a game changer for spot market.

I want to know how, logistically, this could be enforced. Coups will be completely full of OOS trucks with loads that are spoiling waiting for a relief driver or repower. They can’t possibly impound and tow them all!
I’m very skeptical that this is going to do jack squat as it, like every other egregious bs you see every day, isn’t going to be enforced all that diligently!

I hope you're right. I have one trailer left to get rid of and it's going to take a staunch market improvement to find a buyer for it.

I was talking to a broker that I have a good relationship yesterday. We were talking about this. I made the comment that I don’t know how many no English speakers are out here. He said and I quote “dude! There is a #### ton of them” he went on to say one out of every 3 or 4 that call can’t speak English well and most of those are dispatchers and the drivers speak even less.
