Because #### can happen between your post trip and pre trip. Ive had tires be perfectly fine when i went to bed and be flat in the morning. Ive found leaks that i couldnt see or missed because i was tired. Ive found damage on my truck that i was able to schedule to be fixed. Ive found my 5th wheel pulled.

The two trips are there for a bloody reason. Also a good inspection of the truck should at most take around 10 mins. Usually less. Hell even if you do what i do and do a walk around inspection any time the door opens your at most going to spend 30 mins a day inspecting. If your swapping trailers. A trailer inspection takes at most 5 minutes. Walk around. Stick the tires check for obvious damage or broken crap make sure the lights work.

It aint hard. And these inspections if done correctly save lives. Yours included.

At the end of a long day, the last thing I want to do is be called to pull into the shop at midnight or 0200. Not only that, you're going to lose your spot if you have to bring your trailer in to get fixed.

I was aghast at this as well, but we must remember, this is an informational site, regardless how silly the question may seem. Without being nasty, it shows to go how far we've come in trucks. Years ago, we checked the truck several times a day, because they were so riddled with problems, it was imperative to catch a problem early so the night crew could repair it by morning, or evening. Trucks have gotten to the point where you probably could skip the post-trip, and probably be good for the next run. It's risky business if you slip seat, as I would be upset if the truck I was to use had a problem and not reported. PLEASE,,,do a walk around before leaving, I don't know, I couldn't sleep wondering if the truck was good to go or not.

    Are you referring to me?
When picking up a trailer, a thorough pretrip of trailer is a must. Gotta know what your working with good bad and ugly.

This here is why repairs can wait till after driver is rested.

I was asking that question to the OP, but I guess it applies to anyone who doesn’t take this stuff seriously. And to be honest, that has even occasionally included me in the past, but I’m doing much better since I asked myself that very question a while back.

I've had a light go out in the middle of a pretrip. It takes 5 minutes to do a basic enroute/post trip. 5 minutes to save $150 fine and 3 hours waiting for a mechanic to fix your OOS issue. Pretty good ROI.

I've had many, many, many trainees ask me this question.
