Well, what it lacks in presentation, I'm sure is made up in taste.

Most seasoned people in the industry I've talked with blame it on updated regulations.

New regulation comes out and the engineers have to get involved, and well also the accountants. The engineers get a directive from the accountants to shave costs on materials and components. Also bias those engineering decisions with less weight potentially saving freight costs throughout the pipeline.

Notice the no emphasis on product longevity....... New regulation comes down and the above process repeats.....

About the second or third product redesign they notice sales volume has increased because the customers are changing out appliances more frequently. Compounded by the home remodel shows on the tube saying a 5 year old kitchen is "showing it's age".

Since the "new normal" is 5 to 10 years product life, there is no motivation for the companies to build better stuff (that costs more to build which affects return on investment) that would no longer be within many consumers finance price point. Sadly most homeowners do not have cash on hand to replace a major appliance like fridge or water heater, they end up financing them.

Side note to the above: Went to S.E.M.A a couple of times and listened to a couple of business lectures. Most of them included the hint to setup relations with a finance company, because most of the bigger players were making as much off the finance contracts as selling product. Just have to be willing to go out and repo that fancy set of rims and tires.

I am 89 and have none of those symptoms,. Still have appendix and tonsils. Have had 4 way heart bypass, one stroke and last Feb, a stent in L coronary artery. Cataract surgery on the eyes years ago. Still have original knees and spine, but 3 "stacked" vertebrae at beltline.
Other than those minor set backs, still live independently, go to appointments, etc. Pace myself for peepots as Lasix is unforgiving.

Prolly one of the few men who know which exit, what fast food vendor, parking design to reach the entrance door that leads to the rest room.
From Tupelo, MS, to Decatur. AL, Nashville, TN Bowling Green, KY, Smiths Grove, KY, Bardstown, KY and then 1st Shell on right on 60 entering Lexington.......
