Some downtime. Have a slow leak, figured pull tire. A 1 5/16 fits good. Told it’s a 33mm. I bent breaking bar with a pipe to point I thought it might break the bar. I sprayed penetrating fluid 3 days ago, had rain, wind so got to it today.
I have a Dewalt 1/2” impact. Iirc over 1000 ft/lbs tightening, even more loosening are claimed.
So going to get 1 5/16 or 33 mm deep well impact socket. Is it better to go metric? It’s like .013”different.
Is the Dewalt 20v 1/2” enough?
Or just hope breaking bar holds? I have broke them before.
On side note. Saw a step deck load. Pipe, full length. Started upper deck, load leveler on back. Straps over in middle. Unsupported pipe, 2 layers, no belly wrap. I don’t think any belly wrap ebven on front deck.
Shouldn’t there be one more load leveler? No idea how much the pipe flex at +35’ unsupported? WAG.
Or unhook, drive it to tire shop after airing up last 40 psi after 2 weeks?
Lug nuts.

I bought my Dewalt 1/2 to do my truck tires and was disappointed. Took 1 5ah battery to get 7/10 loose. 1440 breaking torque? My arse
Need the big 1" electric Milwaukee, or a proper 1" air impact off a 1/2" line. Truck compressor will run the big impact in a pinch but not well enough, imo -
Does anyone know what this man said???
Walk Among Us, Rugerfan, Opus and 3 others Thank this. -
I have Milwaukee half inch can do all the drives on 1 battery. If I remember I use the standard socket and it worked fine.. since I don't have that size in metric.. I'd imagine trying to get lug nuts loose with just a bar you would have to be strong as a Silverback gorilla

You'll need to put some heat on them. Propane might do it. If not the big red hammer will get 'em loose. You could also take them to a nearby shop and have them bust them loose and put them back on no tighter than 500ftlbs.
Nut should be 33mm but it depends on their condition as to how well it fits and/or what other sizes might fit. When you reinstall them yourself put a couple drops of oil on the studs first. That will help prevent corrosion from locking them next time.Last edited: May 19, 2025 at 7:02 AM

1” Milwaukee for the win!!! My 1/2” has worked in the past, but the 1” is much faster. Milwaukee has much more torque than Dewalt, and I know that for a fact, because me, and 2 of my other brothers have Milwaukee, one brother has Dewalt. There have been many shop contests over the years, but Dewalt never wins. Go figure

1-5/16" will work fine, bit that Dewalt ain't gonna. Yeah, ratings on some impacts are skewed.
They torque to 500ish, but very few actually torque them, and most are over 600 ft lbs.
A long 3/4 or 1" ratchet, 12" extension, and socket will do it. Long = 4' plusD.Tibbitt, Sons Hero, Long FLD and 1 other person Thank this. -
DeWalt is crap. A 3/8” Milwaukee will easily outperform a 1/2” DeWalt, which won’t even budge car lug nuts torqued to 120ft/lbs.
Sons Hero Thanks this. -
