Assuming isn't a good strategy. Next time don't assume.

    It's like a speed trap.
They don't post the 'lower speed limit ahead' sign before the actual speed limit change, but nail you when you are not at the assigned speed limit by the time you get to the sign. Smoke and mirrors to make some money.

I thought semis were not permitted on the Express lanes of 395/495.

HOV lanes | Virginia Department of Transportation.

    From the link I posted:
    • On most interstates in northern Virginia, trucks weighing less than 26,001 pounds are permitted to use HOV lanes if they have the required number of people. Tractor trailer trucks are not permitted on the HOV lanes in the Hampton Roads area or on I-66 inside the Beltway at any time. Trucks with more than two axles are not permitted on the I-95, I-395 or I-495 Express Lanes.

FAQ link I posted is VDOT official site. All in there.

I think their wording may be a bit jacked up in what you saw & they are still supposed to be referring to HOV like the entire rest of passage. Definately misleading.

Can't offer anything else, except I lived there for years. Trucks ARE allowed & I will never pay it! LOL

What you posted from the official VA website is about the Express lanes on I-66 and not about the Express lanes on 395/495. Yes trucks are allowed in the Express lanes of I66. Trucks are not allowed in the Express lanes of 395/495.

    You are right.

Need to get my own reading comprehension together. Getting old.

I was still stuck on the I66 discussion of OP & part you quoted.

You DID say 395/495 after that.

    My mess up.

Imagine some guy not knowing and making that mistake 3 or 4 times in rapid succession. That would hurt, especially if it went unpaid and VASP caught you driving through there. If you weren't ontop of your mail......
