We use a wheel loader and lifting jib for most of our hoisting needs - cabs, hoods, engines, transmissions etc.

Harbour freight has a 4000lb gantry that'll work also, but as typical with any harbor freight crap you buy you need to put it together which might take all weekend in itself. Otherwise a cherry picker with as much other crap removed as possible

Look at that big SOB.... Marketplace finally came through for me 10 gauge boxed end bumper got it for $800 and didn't have to pay any shipping because I went and picked it up across the metro, which sucked but got it done. You can see how bad my hood pins are bent now though, so guess I will be using woreouts method of removing a hood to replace all that crap next, which will work anyway because a new radiator will be next

The thing about a gantry is cost, as well as finding one 10 ft wide and neighborhood of 10 tall.

I’ve got 2 that are 12 wide and 15 tall. Both have 10 ton hoist on them. Pulling a motor it’s all you want dragging that chain. I’m bad to just wrap a chain around the frame to do springs, tie bolts etc. doing a cut off is easy peasy with the pair. Nice stuff is good to work with. However when a mans got a budget and needs to make every penny count he has to learn other ways. Especially if that’s not his primary way of making a living

Yeah the one from harbor freight is like $1000 which I don't consider that bad but dtibbitt might be better off getting a local wrecker to help him out if he can might save home some coin. I just figured the gantry because I know I would work the piss out of that thing afterwards, but my wife is already pissed at me about having to much stuff around. I just told her there wouldn't be to much stuff in her own apartment.
