    Also a US Government website:
Most Americans Speak Only English at Home or Speak English “Very Well”

    Foreign-Born
    • During the 2018-2022 period, there were an estimated 45.3 million foreign-born people in the United States; 13.7% of the nation’s total population.
    • The foreign-born population rose by more than 5 million between the 2008-2012 (39.8 million) and 2018-2022 periods.
    • The Foreign-born made up over a fifth of the state population in California (26.5%), New Jersey (23.2%), New York (22.6%) and Florida (21.1%) in 2018-2022.
    • Florida, Texas, California and New Jersey had the largest numeric increases in the foreign-born population between 2008-2012 and 2018-2022.
    • Almost half (49.1%) of all foreign-born people entered the United States before 2000, and more than half of all foreign-born people (52.3%) were naturalized U.S. citizens in 2018-2022.
    • During the 2018-2022 period, an 18.7% share of the foreign-born population 25 years and older had a bachelor’s degree as their highest degree and 14.9% had a graduate or professional degree, compared to 21.4% and 13.1% of the native-born population 25 years and older.

Before coming here permanently, I was in Germany working. I was in Russia too. They are welcoming tolerant people but they don't play around. When in Rome, do as Romans do. You are a guest. They only want you if you will fit in. They won't reshape the nation to fit you.

Because they’re using one driver for team loads—sometimes even more—it’s impossible to meet every appointment time. There's never enough time, and don’t forget they always slap you with a $500 late fee, straight out of your pay. That’s why it’s smart to avoid any and all European-owned trucking companies. They’ll schedule your next pickup or delivery before you’ve even completed the current one, then penalize you for being late. On top of that, they tack on a dozen other bogus charges just to claw back what they’re supposed to pay you. All this before your paycheck is even created. It’s a trap—stay away.

Let me preface this by saying my grandfather came from Germany. I spoke about what a 4 year old can speak of German plus what I learned in 7th grade German class. Was enough for me to get around Germany on my own back in my army days in the 70s. My wifes grandparents all came from Finland. They went out of their way to NOT speak Finn around the kids when they were growing up. She can swear pretty good in Finn, but thats about it ;)

There is a difference between the US and most other countries. For 1, the US has no official language. English is the accepted default, but it has never been officially adopted as such (some states have but not enough to pass a constitutional amendment). Also the vast amount of "Americans" can trace their roots to foreign counties. That "nationalism" of OTHER countries is (or at least WAS) celebrated in this country.

Case in point. My wife is from the western tip of the U.P. of Michigan. 50+ years ago, we went up there for her cousins wedding. On the way we passed through Hurley, Wisconsin. They had banners across the street celebrating "Dago Days" and "WOP week" Festival Italiano – Hurley Wisconsin - needless to say, it isnt called that anymore. Cinco de Mayo. St Patricks Day. Octoberfest (New Ulm Minnesota - you will feel like you are back in Germany the way it was built). Im sure there are dozens more of ethnic holidays and traditions that are celebrated in this country to keep that heritage alive. Its what WE DO as Americans. Its where we CAME from.

And its because of this diversity that we do not have an official language. But that - pride for lack of better words - in our heritage loses more and more with each passing year. Some of us believe its worth saving.

Here is a simple Google search. I suppose all of these are false since you’ve stated it doesn’t happen.

Here, I added Illinois to the search.

I used to be a CDL instructor in Minneapolis... About 20 years ago. Cant say I ever head of a scandal in Mn over it.

I DID happen across this however...
Jasinski bill to help more Minnesotans obtain their CDL receives first hearing – Minnesota Senate Republicans

Republicans beating the drum to help more people get their CDLs... In a state that PAYS immigrants to come there... And offers the test in 8 different languages....

(There are reasons other than the weather that I left)

    ** And Minneapolis isnt a "state" ;)

I can only guess which member you guys are arguing with. If it’s who I think, then I think he is retired and is out of touch with current realities of trucking. So it’s a waste of time arguing with him. He doesn’t understand the problem. And is basically just an old troll with nothing better to do.
