So a friend of mine is telling me open deck took a nose dive the last two weeks. I looked at my LS load board and seems like we have less on our board than I remember. Near Chicagoland.
Is open deck slowing? Or is it just me?
I want to buy a 48 foot flat, but now I'm having second thoughts. I'm currently pulling a dry van. I have done flat and step. I have equipment already for that freight.
Flatbed freight. Good or Bad?

It took a huge dive on the spot market over two years ago and hasn't recovered since.

Seems like people always needs sticks and bricks, even if it doesn’t pay the best.
cke, exhausted379, Deere hunter and 3 others Thank this. -
Has been devastating the past two weeks, worst drop off I have ever experienced.
Was soo bad I had to deadhead out of Chicago.
I'm talking $2 a mile to Northeast and $1.30 to Memphis getting grabbed as soon as they were posted.
Flatbed is still better than Van.
Just be careful the markets you go into.cke, Ok big boy and 77fib77 Thank this. -
Goes to show how many trucks held together with duct tape sat it out. -
I just wonder what's going on with the economy. Bad open deck freight in June...... Hopefully it's a blip.cke and Deere hunter Thank this. -
Been surviving just to doing short runs in okay areas, two loads in a day and golden.
Anything with miles not paying.
The volume fell off a cliff two weeks ago.
I went from phone blowing up to zero calls with truck posted. Midwest is worst I have ever seen.
Brokers taking advantage, I've seen rates cut massively on loads always posted every week.
The volume isn't there, too many dummies taking anything at any price just to have to a load. -
Maybe want to take another look. Personally I’ve been doing great lately doing Van. Was actually going to ask the forum if there was some kind of Muslim holiday going on due to the elevated rates lately.
$2.00 per mile I just skip over. My next two loads are really close to $3.00. Daily revenue around $1,600 - $1,700 since just before Memorial Day.
$1.30 per mile? I’ve never done that.cke, lual, D.Tibbitt and 1 other person Thank this.
