Quitting an OTR job and getting back home.

If @gentleroger was giving bad or questionable info I would tell everyone he is wrong. @gentleroger is EXACTLY right and you should do what he suggests.

You can make things much much worse for you, possibly not work in trucking again, if you just decide to do what you want with a truck you don't own. Leaving some of your stuff behind, if necessary, until you can ship it home will be a much smaller problem than what happens if you take a company's truck on a 300 mile round trip to get your belongings home without company permission.

Some lessons from this are have plenty of cash for emergieces, if you have lots of stuff in the truck make sure it's cheap enough you can throw it away or have a plan to ship it if needed.

 

You can be on-duty for 168 hours in 1 week and not violate the Hours of Service. You cannot drive but you can be on-duty for every single hour that a week contains. You are incorrect newbie, @gentleroger is correct.

 

You can be on duty past your 70 and 14 hour clocks, just not driving.
Then you have to have the required break time before you can legally drive again.

If it is the 14 hour clock then you need the required 10 hour break.
If it is the 70 hour clock then you need the required 34 hour reset, unless you have recap hours coming in which would just require the 10 hour break to use the recap hours.

 

Ok well.....since you've requested hometime for the following Monday, which I'm assuming your talking about a week from Monday, your panicking for no reason. Just send a reminder message and let the chips fall where they may.

You really need to chill out man. Im trying to look out for you best as I can so you can get some guidance. You keep showing disrespect to longtime drivers and mentors. You don't want your thread to eventually get locked up by the moderators.

Now listen, they suggest the rental car only because it's the easiest way to cut your ties and losses without abandoning the truck and your belongings. Since you can't afford a rental, or you're unwilling to get a rental, you'll have to wait to talk to someone of significance on Monday like I said earlier. They'll tell you what to do exactly.

 

Ok well the panic part is the least important part of what I was saying. I will also say this, they could route you to a terminal this week so they could get the truck and send you home. If they know you're quitting, it isn't going to make sense for them to send you home and bring you back. Be prepared to UPS your stuff home, or to lose some of it. Honestly if you're hometime is a week from Monday, I'm fuguring their cutting ties this upcoming week.
