I’ll try to keep this short, so just ask if you want clarification about something. About a month ago, I talked with a Schneider field recruiter (I’m not gonna name him here) as a potential job among other applications I’ve filled and job fairs I’ve attended since being fired in late February. I now have my CPL with a tanker endorsement because this seems like the most solid job prospect. He told me Schneider offers paid training, which I was glad to hear! So I looked at the Schneider job openings, and I have 2 options: dedicated team driver (less training, but I need a partner before training starts) or tanker with hazmat endorsement (more training for hopefully obvious reasons). So I’m not much of a people person and generally avoid social media. This job has come as a surprise to people I’ve told and I have a week or so to find a complete stranger willing to join me if I go with option 1 because I have no family, friends, friends of family, or family of friends that are willing or able. So that’s daunting. I’m also not thrilled about driving a tank of hazardous chemicals during the winter. That’s also daunting. Well, winter driving just sucks in general unless you have a Subaru, I guess.

So I’m hoping for some help. Is this a good place to look for a partner for team driving?

I don't recommend teams at all. Teams rarely works out even if you team with your best friend. Think of living in a small walk-in closet with another person and all the belongings. Can only use the bottom bunk when the truck is moving, so you'll both have to use that bunk, which means constantly changing linen or use a sleeping bag. Think about you and another guy rotating breathing in each others stinky morning breath.
If Schneider offered you a tanker position, then take that.

I pulled hazmat tankers running 48 states & Canada and never had a problem at all.

There may be other options also, if you live in a good hiring area and your firing wasn't for anything too drastic.
For now, that Schneider tanker job seems really good.

I’m pretty comfortable with the notion of minimalism, so the small space doesn’t bother me. It’s the social aspect for me. I can see us getting into some argument about religion or politics and everything going to ####. Do you have experience with team driving?

My first company teaming was forced. Sucked. We were both military vets, so had that in common, but still we both knew teaming wasn't for us. He and I both resigned and he went with JB Hunt and I went with a flatbed company.

If you really want to team, go with a refrigerated company. You'll be doing long coast-to-coast runs.

My first job was LTL linehaul, which required doubles/triples, hazmat, and tanker. As a rookie hazmat driver, you won't be hauling any of the really nasty stuff - they leave that to the proven pros. Fact is, all kinds of everyday materials, in the quantities that are moved by truck, qualify as hazmat. Probably half the stuff under your kitchen sink moved with hazmat placards on the truck. I wouldn't sweat it at all. And having these endorsements will be a great asset, whether you decide to stay at Schneider long-term or look elsewhere.
