Now to preface this it had been white smoking and missing on a cold start for 100k of its last miles, at least maybe more. It just kept getting increasingly worse. It had developed blowby but wasn’t blowby it was actually antifreeze in the oil boiling out in the form of steam. However it never became enough to make the oil milky. His mechanic “buddy” convinced him I don’t know what I’m talking about and a bad injector was causing his smoke. And being honest that suited me cause I was trucking every day when all this started and wasn’t gonna fool with it for any amount of money. My only advice to him was fix it asap. It was not a the damage is done situation. When I was pulling it down after I got the injectors out of it I barred it over and had a 10ft geyser shoot out of #6
those fire rings were both toward the front of the engine had #4 went to the rear it would have had 2 dead holes as the compression would just swap back and forth. Them both being toward the front has a significant meaning in the damage assessment
My ol Dad had this sayin went something like pay me now or pay me later either way doesn’t matter to me.austinmike, Rugerfan, cke and 17 others Thank this. -
Well, I finally got a chance to tear into my heap…
I have said since this started the noise was coming from #3…When I get the Jake housing off of 3-4, this is what I see.
Then this.
Thankfully I was able to fish the lower piece out.
It was out of the socket on the cam follower, sitting down in there at an angle.
Thank God it hadn’t jammed…and got spit out the side of the block.
I don’t think it is any coincidence that when I ran the overhead after the other shop had run it twice, #3 injector was WAY too tight. It took over 140 inch lbs to loosen the adjuster, and it should have taken 90-95 inch lbs.austinmike, Isafarmboy, Rugerfan and 21 others Thank this. -

It was a bad day playing fleet mechanic 3 hours to install S-cams just one axel on a trailer. I said I would take an overnight trip to springhill TN. A couple of days dealing with idiots should make the tool box look more friendly
