The ‘98 flood was nasty. Cuero and all them roof tops underwater. San antonio river bridge on US59-77 knocked down.

Back on that day we were watching that live.
If you’ve ever crossed the Guadalupe on I-10 by the Love’s that is at the Comfort exit you know how tall that overpass is. In ‘87 water touched the road surface beams. That is deep. River water would have flooded the loves’s if it was there then.

Before the ‘87 flood my soon to be wife had bought some river side lake front property on McQueeny, which is between New Braunfels and Seguin when she was in high school. They were selling it cheap. Way to risky to build on it. She sat on it untill Feb of ‘98 and sold it for a good profit. The folks who bought it put a mobile home on it and moved in a couple months before the flood of ‘98 wiped the whole area clean. The never rebuilt anything on that lot since.

This clearly shows just how quickly this area was under water

At a nearby camp run by the Presbyterians, the maintenance supervisor stayed up watching weather websites. He has a Hispanic name, so it would be ironic if he was an illegal. When he saw the Flash Flood Emergency warning, he woke up the camp director and they got everyone to safety. No one was washed away at that camp. Camp Mystic did not have anyone monitoring the situation apparently.
