So upon reaserching for the main bearing replacement I'm looking to preform, the old shop wizard scanned me his 855 shop manual. According to the manual the proper sequence is:

    Tighten to 145-155FT-LBS
    Continue to Tighten to 300-310FT-LBS
    Loosen 3 Turns
    Retighten to 140-145FT-LBS
Tighten both cap screws on each cap alternatively an evenly to 300-310FT-LBS

However over on scribed I found different instructions: Screenshot_20250706_232049_Chrome.jpg
My engine is a Gen Four according to the serial number which indicates it was manufactured in '89 (what I believe is) the last year before they quite production on the 855 and moved onto the N14 Red Top. The Pete was manufactured sometime in 11/'89.

Hey bud, I accidentally hit the send button before finishing the whole post. Could you tell me your thoughts on the info I added?

Pics of the motor would be helpful. Hopefully it's not a low flow motor.

What is the diameter of the radiator hoses?

Low flow motor? Sorry I have to admit my biggest fixes before this where replacing the head gasket on a Triton 4.6L V8, Hydraulic Brake lines and ball joints on an 03 F150. I've never heard that term before.

And here's pics of the motor

Also serial number for the Big Cam according to Peterbilt is: 11504100

(Sorry it took so long to get the pics I had to fight off the mothman)

That’s a Big Cam IV with low flow cooling. Came out around 1984-85 time period. Mine use to be a low flow since it’s a 86 model, I changed it all over to high flow….

The outfit I did open deck for had several Big Cams. One in particular I remember having a tendency to overheat. I assume that would be due to this “low flow” crapola? o_O

    The one I drove didn’t.

What idiot thought that was a good idea??

The sequence is the same on all Cummins 855’s. The torque ratings are different depending on the bolt/stud diameter. I have seen many that don't have the lockplates from the factory. Many old Cummins guys have said if it don’t have them don’t install them.
