At least back in the paper log days you could adjust your log for a small amount if you could make it to a safe parking area unlike the computer watching your every move. I'm not saying running 2 logs or an extra 2-3 hours but it was done without so many trucks on shoulders because some electronic wizard is watching your every move.

If you plan your day, you should not need to use the shoulder, I have no problems with parking,at all.

Well you can plan all you want but sometimes S### happens, or at least it did to me. As an experienced driver, I now have more control on where I work: lanes, schedules, local, OTR, regional,etc..

I've been driving since 1977, So and still driving today, I have 2, 1 million mile safety awards and a couple of high mileage awards from IWX , for running more miles than the rest of the fleet, Solo. The only things that goes to is I have a couple of miles under my belt..
Part of preplaning is so you have the time to handle the unexpected, because I agree with you, there will always be something. Delays are are just part of the business.
I have the advantage of driving for a company that also understnds this makes life alot easier.

Sulphur Springs, TX would like to have a word . . .

Beyond that - who is the "they" that should be building more truck parking spots?
