What would you do? Keep my truck or move to the new one?

    Yep. Funny thing was I went to the local emergency room, they x-rayed it and said nothing was broke. Just a bad bruise. Two days later I went to an orthopedic doctor and he was livid. He did X-rays and a CT scan. Showed me the damage. Now I'm livid at the emergency room doctor as well. But I'll get through it lol

    Scapula sounds like something I’d use to flip burgers on my grill. Anyway hope you get better soon and I think you’ll be better off in the Star Car anyway. Enjoy the older iron, once you get out of it you’ll probably never get to run them much anymore. We have some old yard trucks and I enjoy occasionally just moving trailers around the yard just to hear the turbo again.

    Ask him how much he wants for it?

    That's about the best used truck you could ever buy if he'll sell it to you. Good specs and nobody else has trashed it. No different than if you'd bought it new.

    10 speeds tend to hold up better than 13/18 from what I've heard. But a lot of that is probably who's used it. No question the splitter is handy in challenging conditions though.

    It's not for sale. When they buy new equipment, the old stuff gets passed down the line to the newer guys, eventually it does get sold off, but by then nobody but a farmer, or someone looking for a project would want it

    No matter now though. I'm off work until further notice recovering from a mishap. So the next in line got the new truck. I find it funny because he and I pretty much hate each other, and I know he didn't want the new truck either

    There’s a reason why you don’t see 10 speeds in the higher HP ratings. Usually after 500-515HP, it’s all 13s and 18s. After 550HP, it’s all 18s. The biggest 13 speed is rated at 1850 ft lbs. The smallest 18 is rated at 1850. Most 10 s are in the 1450-1650 range. If you have big HP, 600 and above, there’s only 1 transmission for you, the RTLO22918B. The thing is, the strongest engine from the factory was the C16 Cat, 745 HP, King of the Mountain. So much torque that it could change the rotation of earth. Would grenade any transmission made. So, you ease through the gears. You’re never heavy on the throttle. You learn to be light on the throttle when driving.

    Of course, you run into other issues. If the engine can run up the mountain passes without struggling grossed out, and the transmission can handle the torque, THEN you have to worry about cooking your drives. An owner op spec truck will have the transmission temp sensors and the drive axle temp sensors for a reason. Fleet trucks will not have these sensors and gauges. But a 430-450HP isn’t going to make the power to perform like the bigger engines do. So, it’s not necessarily a component failure, it’s a knowledge gap in driving.

    it might be a cooling issue more than anything. I don’t really know the rhyme or reason behind the torque ratings on different gear boxes but I remember seeing some literature showing how the highest torque rated 18 speed units had auxiliary oil coolers where the lower rated ones did not.

    This may get a bit long, so be warned!

    I probably shouldn't have used the word hate. More like a mutual dislike for each other.

    It's a small company, only like 20 trucks. I've been here 15 years and it's been pretty good for the most part. Certainly not perfect but no company is. He's been here like 5 years now I think.

    He's one of those guys that feels he knows everything, been there, done that. A genuine super trucker. And a failed owner operator. So He's running around running his mouth about how the boss (who's been successfully running this company 30+years) is doing everything all wrong, complaining to the customers about all their shortcomings on a regular basis. He's actually a good driver, a hard worker. But he can't keep his mouth shut about anything.

    I don't profess to be perfect in any way. But I'm pretty darn good at what I do. I get along with the customers, and bring my A-game everyday. The customers see and know that. And the boss does too. So when there's a guy running his mouth about everything, and it causes trouble for everyone, it really irks me.

    I made the mistake of befriending this guy not long after he started here. And pretty soon I was doing the same stuff he does. Complaining about everything, hating life, looking for a new job all the time etc. I typically have had the newest (and cleanest) equipment in the yard. So I caught grief about being an ### kisser and such, but brushed it off as good natured fun at the time.

    Over the winter, I had an epiphany of sorts. I realized the schedule I was running wasn't the best fit for me and my family, and the boss had me on a sort of dedicated route nearly everyday. While it paid well, after a while it became rather boring. So I asked for him to change it up a bit, and he did.
    So this other guy, who'd been running some of the longer runs and complaining nonstop about working so hard, gets put on this short run I was doing, and I moved to the longer runs. I figured everyone would be content with the change in pace and scenery. But after a week or so this guy calls me up, and spent the next hour on the phone just unloaded all his grievances about me. Called me everything but a human being. I let him vent, didn't care too much about it at the time. But when he started running his mouth to everyone else about what should have been between him and I, and basically trying to put everyone against me, I'd had enough. Fortunately, the customers, and our coworkers could see through his BS, and his plan backfired. They know my reputation and who I am, and didn't take the bait.

    Funny thing, he was the loudest critic of this new truck. Said it was junk, it was ugly, yadda yadda. It was either him or me that was getting it. His truck was my old one, and it was getting long in the tooth. But he was adamant he was keeping it. Monday I was to take the new truck on its maiden trip, but I broke my shoulder, so he ended up in it. I'm sure he's not happy about it, but whatever.

    So, I'm done with him and his games, and looking forward to getting back in my Starcar after I'm released to return to work, in probably a month.
