Looking to finally get OUT of Wisconsin. I was looking into either getting and living in an rv and finding somewhere to go and work until i found a permanent place or getting my own truck and living OTR for a while, again until i found a place. trouble is that i have 6 cats and dont want to give any up. so i would need to get my own truck and lease on somewhere most likely unless i could make a deal as a company driver, which is unlikely.

i now have about 3 months experience with flatbed. concrete pipes, sewer structures, and some pallet freight experience. 2 inch, 4 inch strap and some chaining experience. i dont imagine this will count for much in the flatbed world?

any advice on who to go with or the rv option?

Find a local job, and keep the cats at home.

You will hate me, but to bring 6 cats on the road is selfish and damaging to the cats.

I am offering this advice from a cat (9) owner and a fleet owner.

Get an RV and settle in a no-income-tax state.
Some RV & Camper places also have pet restrictions. Probably have to cheat on the number of cats you have.
Some places also have age limits on RV's. Even if the RV looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor; it still has to meet age requirements.
Many people would love to live in an RV and live wherever they want. At one time I dreamed of doing just that.
I recommend Tennessee, South Dakota, Florida, Texas, Reno/Las Vegas, Nevada.

If you live in the RV with the cats, maybe get a job with a CDL Temp Agency where you can go home every day. Trillium is one of many cdl temp agencies.

I'm with the other guys. RV or local is the way to go. 3 months experience, as well as 6 cats, especially if you've been out of the truck for a while, will make it dicey to find a company job.

    tscottme and Chinatown Thank this.

Pick the smartest cat out of all of them and make them the OM (Operations Manager)
There is a thread in here that explains it.

Leaving the Badger, you say? I did that 7.5 years ago, and never looked back. I have a brother and SIL in Concord. Come on out to Colorado, room for one more. To be clear, Colorado, and most other states, have limitations on how long you can stay in an RV in one place. The cats will unquestionably be an issue, wherever you go. Rent here is typically $900-$1200/mo. for a 1 bedroom, to $1900/mo. for a side by side, and almost all say no pets. Jobs are certainly plentiful here, just not trucking so much. Heck, our Safeway is offering $21/hr. for NEW hires. Walmart, $18-$20, and just about every restaurant in the county needs help. Your 3 months doesn't do much either, except I'd say 80% of the trucking here is flatbed, but nobody in the world will hire you with 3 months. Insurance rules the roost there. If the cats are a must have, I'd forget about trucking, and make almost as much slicing cheese and the cats will be home waiting for you.
