Look , the reason companies and corporations created the “LEASE” business model, because is extremely profitable.
Those companies and corporations preyed on people who have poor credit , no credit ,, criminal record,, people who are very ignorant and uneducated in this business, people who have not other options than to accept their terms and conditions. And those terms and conditions are only to protect the company , corporations and shareholders holders .
Then , when the trucker can’t afford to maintain the truck because the business is set up to make sure the trucker will never own the truck , the leasing company will take the equipment away from the trucker .
Now , why it gets me so fkn upset?? Because I know people who had been fkd by those companies . I watch social media and the news . Truckers complaining about it , companies closing doors and refusing to pay their drivers and no one does anything about it . In fact stupid truckers continue driving g for those companies and/or continue signing lease agreements!!!!
It is fkn ridiculous!!!
For some of you it is ok when companies abuse and exploit others. But , let me tell you this. If we continue with this sheep mentality , your time is coming. You will be next .hope not dumb twucker and ElmerFudpucker Thank this. -
You know people screwed over by a lease company? How much of the above did they participate in? Just curious....Deere hunter, Long FLD and JB7 Thank this. -
While it’s a true statement, I don’t think we should say oh well… and allow people to push poison.
Most lease purchases are predatory and are packaged and marketed towards people who can’t afford it. They also play on people’s emotions and desires. Much like a subprime home loan.Deere hunter, MACK E-6, hope not dumb twucker and 2 others Thank this. -
"That company screwed me over!" Did you read the agreement you signed? " No....It was too long, and they were pushing me to sign". Did you have any money saved to fall back on? "well...no, we were barely making it, how could I save money?" Ever run a business? "No, but this isn't a business, it's driving a truck, how hard is that?"Deere hunter, IH Truck Guy, Cattleman84 and 3 others Thank this. -

I’m not defending super ego at all but I’m pretty sure this goes on at most carriers.
hope not dumb twucker Thanks this. -
People want to take the easy way. And the majority of time that isn’t the best way. Lease purchase programs being popular is along the same lines of how a disproportionate amount of lottery tickets are sold in lower income areas versus wealthier areas where people know it’s a scam.
Do lease purchase deals keep rates low? Probably a little. But along those lines being able to get authority for $300 probably does more to keep rates low than lease purchase deals. The same reason that companies have the ability to grow and do lease purchase scams is the same reason a one truck guy can get authority and run spot freight.
People are free to make their own choices. It’s not my place to protect them from doing something that could burn them. It’s my job to make sure I don’t burn myself with my own choices.Deere hunter, D.Tibbitt, Cattleman84 and 3 others Thank this. -
It's a win win for the lease company as they're taking a cut of the line haul as well as selling the truck at a considerable premium. They don't care where the truck goes as they'll make a profit regardless. Meanwhile, the driver takes a crap rate coming out of Atlanta or Denver (just as an example) and he's mostly likely running that load at a loss after the carrier takes their cut (percentage lease).
I think most of the programs should go away as most of these drivers aren't savvy in the ways of business so lives and families can get ruined financially or worse. They are definitely predatory in that regard. However there seems to be a few decent lease deals out there as well.
The independent contractor rule under the DOL was supposed to address the predatory lease problem..but so far nothing but crickets..most of these folks are anything but independent contractors. Indentured servants is more like it.Last edited: Jul 30, 2025

@D.Tibbitt
If memory serves me you were successful with a L/P program some years back, and now are a L/O correct? As someone who I respect, and have done business with in the past. And as someone who literally (unknown to either of us at the time) became the first client of what I hope to someday build into a successful business... I would like to hear some of your thoughts on all this talk of L/P and L/O programs, directly from the horses mouth so to speak, if you would be willing to share some of your experiences. I know you've had a few ups and downs along the way, but you're still out here making it happen... and that speaks volumes toward the kind of man and businessman you are.Deere hunter, D.Tibbitt and Lonesome Thank this.
