    Hello everyone,

I hope everyone is doing well!

I took my road test last week. I was failed for going through a yellow light without stopping. I also forgot to cancel my turn signal after turning—just once. I ground the gears once while downshifting. My turning was fine, but the examiner said I seemed afraid of the truck. She also said I was driving 25 mph in a 35 mph zone. Do you think these were valid reasons to fail me, or was she just being harsh?

Also, quick question: If I’m cruising in 10th gear at 55 mph and there’s a small curve ahead on the highway, can I use the brakes to slow down? What’s the lowest speed I can drop to in 10th gear without stalling? Could I brake down to 35 mph and still stay in gear safely?

thank you everybody for your time!

Welcome aboard, and we all understand how intimidating it can be. I may get roasted for this, but the issues sound relatively minor, could it be, if you are a man, "she" had a grudge? Hey, never know, but more likely, "she" was just doing her job, where some old guy might let those things slide. The yellow light was a bad one, but Lord knows we've all pushed it a time or 2, just not on a road test. Turn signal, nah, ground gears, nah, 25 in a 35 is better than t'other way 'round. Not sure how long you have to wait for a retest, but now you know what to expect, and I guarantee you'll pass with flying colors, NOW, GET TO WORK!!:biggrin_25516:,,:hello2:

Even Swift will fail you on a road test for driving 25 in a 35. Rule of thumb is no less than 5 under and 10 to 15 under on ramps.

You'll get chewed out about the turn signal but they shouldn't fail you for it.

The only real problem is the yellow light and thinking you need to brake down 20mph for what you're calling a small curve.

Yea I don’t know what I was thinking about proceeding through the yellow light I guess I was to focused driving the manual! But I meant if I am taking a small curve can I just use my service breaks instead of downshifting?
