With my 3.25 I'd be in 6th gear most the time around 30 mph.. I am not an expert on this tho. I just remember getting passed uphill by fully loaded b trains and maxi's . And all those guys seem to run big horsepower and short gearing like 3.93 or higher... sure made my fleet spec truck seem like a child's toy

Think I aline more in this camp.?

My 3.70's don't seem like enough half the time just to lift off when heavy. My "Performance" 9 got a terrible 10.70 to 1 reduction 1st (no low hole like a normal RTO/RTX) and barely any off idle tq..

Add some weight & soft ground she struggles..

I am by no means an expert on anything except how to f things up, that I got down pat, I have just done alot of experimentation with this truck, have ran different ratios, different tire sizes and seeing what I like best for how it pulls. when this set of lo pro 24.5's get replaced it will be with tall 24.5 getting it out of the hole with those big tires and gears will suck, I will have to watch it on soft ground and starting on hills, but my cruising speed at 1400-1500 in direct will be right around 70, that rpm range is my best fuel mileage range, I can go down to 1300 in direct and be fine on heat as long as there is not a killer wind. When I first bought this truck my plan was 2 years and get rid of it, then the covid crap hit, prices went through the roof, and there was no way I was paying anywhere around those prices to "upgrade" into something I couldn't work on, so ol white trash and me are pretty much married at this point. My first ifta's while being on the account I am on right now were in the low to mid 4's so I have been experimenting with ways to get that up, my iftas are still only in the 6's now but alot of that is because at least 1/2 of my miles come from door swinging, I pulled only flat for two weeks never touched a van and my two week average was 8.17 which is better than I was expecting but right where I want to be if I can ever stay hooked up to my own flatbed

That's the truth right there, these box wagons like to suck fuel man..

Winter was in the 4.3mpg range, even summer now best is maybe 5.5mpg..

Week under a highboy skate was 7.2, with a high of 8.27 for one day.. lol

You still on the MBN file?

Gap between tractor and a van trailer is the largest loss. The closer it is, the better. Then roof faring. The rest is peanuts in comparison.

I used to run 6-7.5 with my midroof and 48-50k rod coils in the box. The upper faring would have made a large difference.
