Milk tankers probably easy compared to any other OTR companies. Much less stress and better caliber of customers.

Right then and there when you start thinking, it’s routine and predictable is when it sneaks up on you and a series of crazy things will happen to remind you that there is very little normalcy with living on the road. Lol at least that’s how it goes for me. I try not to jinx it with your line of thinking.

There’s many folks doing it. You’ll need a right carrier tho. A friend of mine used to do Illinois to PA home on weekends. Making $1700-2400 a week depending how many runs he did. It’s all about the right employer, stay away from greedy pos megas.

I had a home daily job for almost 20 years but my home was only a place to sleep/shower/eat between work shifts. I got a PO Box and had my mail sent there instead of in my mailbox until 5 am or next weekend. For the best options you need to have a particular job and a particular place/location in mind because they difference between tolerable and just right involve many details. An empty house will invite burglars and copper thieves. It's something to decide over a longer period, not quickly unless you already know the 809 details right now.

EVERY OPTION has trade-offs and until you lists every possible thing you want and consider every single detail in doing each one you may not get the right answer. LOTS of drivers work OTR, regional, home daily and live in every possible type of alternative. But the alternatives near you with your job are what count. The answer to every "has anyone figured X out..." is yes, but you are not that person and don't have their job and family/non-family, income, schedule, commute, parking, etc.

I don't know a lot about milk hauling, though WDT website says they have jobs in Idaho that are home 2-3 nights a week. It comes up a lot on these boards that tanker customers are a lot better than the ones I'm used to in the reefer world...

I have pulled tankers, but not milk. Majority of my career was reefers.
Pulled hazmat tankers, liquid and dry bulk, for 5 years. Never had a problem with any shipper or receiver. Even all the gate guards were professional and easy going. Very little stress at all pulling tankers.

    tscottme and dave01282000 Thank this.

Definitely over a longer period, I agree. I'm just getting started, really...content to drive OTR in the meantime while figuring out details and seeing what jumps out at me.
