Why? It's one of those old fashioned things that is no longer needed. To me, it makes as much sense as washing my clothes in an old washing board, or mowing my yard with one of those old mowers with only blades and no motor. And last but not least - I know I'm going to get flack for this one - cursive. I learned it in grade school, and I sign my name in it nearly every day, but I thought it was dumb and antiquated then, and I feel doubly as such now.

I need it everyday, as do most local drivers around my area, so I guess it’s still needed.

I literally drove one yesterday for the first time. You're not exaggerating, it is super simple. I'd drive one all the time if I owned one.

Well, I wish I had half your work ethic... What's your theory on why though?

I was fortunate, one on one with the instructor. I found I learned a lot getting an uninterrupted hour or 2 of just driving the truck. I probably would have quit if I had to waste a full day just to get an hour of drive time.

Knowing how to double clutch is totally necessary, not diffficult at all, same rythm as flosting and much easier on the equipment, floating trashs the gears and rvrntilly causes failure in the transmission, I have been around this industry to know the difference, all the hoop la about floating is BS, if you can not shift then drive n auto.Part of why maintenance cost on the auto's is cheeper id driver tring to float who dont know how are trashing transmissions, the trans you damage will probally fail on the next driver not you, because it create a wear patern on the gears and shifting forks. Just like driving resting your paw on the shifter wears out the bushing in the top of the shifter tower causing future failures. Don't think that the damage your causing by shifting incorrectly isn't there, its just has not shown up yet.

Well I have worked in shops pulling the trannys apart, I know what I have found. You dont have to agree, but I also have seen the quality of the drivers drop radically in the last 20 years, they simply are not trained. Using the clutch reduces the pressure exerted to the gears while shifting. You can clain it doesnot but if your a driver that know nothing about the inside of the trans, your opioion does not matter much.
