I must agree here, I suppose. It's pretty stupid to brag about that kind of thing under any circumstances...
I have a picture of my truck up there but I do not worry about it because I run legal.

You can't possibly know how it feels to be a successful O/O when many are not able to do so.

Looks to me like you have some self esteem issues here...The desciption is funny as hell though...Slicked hair? So what, It's 1957 again? Fancy clothes? Jeans, Boots and a clean shirt are fancy clothes??? It's just normal work attire for a man.

Company guys get looked down upon? I usually can't tell a company hand from a O/O unless I see his truck.
Sometimes the "I don't give a ####" attitude gives you guys away though.

How I want my personal truck to look should not matter at all to you...
I've never bragged about my truck to some guy at a truckstop or anywhere else for that matter and I can't remember the last time I heard a guy sitting in a truckstop bragging about such things either but I have discussed where I have bought certain items for my ride with another driver in order to help him save a little money on a part that he might want to get for his truck.
Maybe that stuff doesn't "make me a dime" as you so ignorantly put it but it is all deductable from my taxes and therefore helps me keep a little more of the money that I earn through those deductions. So I suppose when you look at it that way (You know, Like a person that owns a business) It does make me substantially more than a dime while making my truck look nice...The way I want it to look because it's MINE!

Once again...Your self esteem seems to be in the tank here as well.
I'm never condescending towards another driver unless he presents himself like a moron...

I did well over 200 grand last year (gross) and that was a bad year.

    That's just funny!

Because...You're NOT a trucker, You're just some guy that drives a truck.

    There is a HUGE difference!

I would rather have my ears cut off with a chainsaw than be a DOT cop!

I believe in safety too...I have a long track record of running safe and legal.
I do not believe as some do that the government has all of the answers...I honestly don't believe that they have any of the answers these days but I run within the parameters that they set and I make a good living doing it.

But to leave this industry with a chip on your shoulder and try to be a DOT cop to "get even" with the guys that you dislike out of pure ignorance says way more about YOU than it does about those you hold in such low regard.

You'll fit right in with the power hungry weaklings that usually wind up being security gaurds after they get fired from being a real cop for doing the things that you claim you want to do!

This statement verifies what I said above.

Yes...Jakes do have a purpose they are for braking assistance when decending a grade and a lot of idiots do in fact think that they are there to make noise and sound cool...You are right about that, But even a broken clock is right twice a day!

While I don't always agree with southernpride...I have a high degree of respect for the man because he's one of the "good ones" and has been out here for many years and has done well for himself running his way..

I have a feeling that the reason that YOU feel like people look down on you is because they probably do because the way you come across in your posts is petty and vindictive and pretty much not very impressive.

You want to be a DOT for ALL THE WRONG REASONS and because of that...You will fail at it as badly as you've probably failed at trucking and whatever else you've done before that.

Black900- I apologise for some of that. I was mad and to talk about being a nasty DOT man as get back is not right and I know it. I do think DOT saves lives even if they are a pain in the backside to many who do right and slip in little ways. You and I both know cases of guys fallin sleep and crossing the center line or running off the road and causing death. I thought some not you was nasty and braggin about running dangerous and renagade too. I do see some ####y guys in the plazas but your right- I should not let it work me up then come here and be nasty.

Is O/O really good? The part that gets me in my thoughts is getting good loads without dispatch and maintenance. Can't a blown engine just crush you with downtime and cost? 200K is huge but how much of that goes to the house with high fuel, insurance, maintanence and all that? Your point about all the goodies aint' right though cause if you spend a grand on something that don't help you make even if you deduct it, you still lose your tax bracket on it. It still is a waste of money like buying fancy curtanes for your house . But you are right= that is your business just like the man that goes and buys a fancy 300 suit of clothes.

One more thing- YOu can't judge a man by his clothes or his big belly. A friend of mine just died and he had a big belly and wore baggy jorts and an old t but he was honest and smart and did good. He treated people right and if he wore a suit and was trim, fit and good lookin and was a crook with a mean heart he'd not be a professional that he was.

Nothing personal here Blackw900 or the rest. It is hard to know what to do but all DOT is not bad and nasty and they serve a purpose+ they must cover their ### in case they miss stuff then the man rams a bus load of kids. Maybe I had too much coffee yesterday and got wound tight.

You all have a good weekend.

The blown motor can crush a O/O if your not prepared for it.(cash in the bank/credit) The buying of chrome isn't part of running a trucking business it is the owners preferance. If he/she has the money the problem is???? Many O/O buy that chrome because they want the truck to shine. Becoming a O/O is the best thing I've ever done (trucking) because I haul what I want where I want. The money is better but, the stress can be greater. Some people will never make it as a O/O and thats okay. Some don't want the stress. Some people would'nt have it any other way except owning their truck. When you make the O/O thing work you will never look back.

How much does the broker take and have you ever looked into hauling mail? Does the post office pay good for steady loads of mail?

No hard and fast rule on what a broker takes. Hauling mail is like a J.O.B. you have to be ready to work every day. Not my thing.
