Yea man you did the right thing. I had no one in front of me for a mile but the sun had a mirage over the horizon so by the time I saw the #### thing it was already under me eating my trailer’s gizzards away

Well I am in my own truck.I guess now is the time the real learning begins.I flew back to HQ on Monday and ubered to hotel.Melton is good about travel arrangements, all ubers, hotels and flights are prepaid.I have read that some companies expect you to pay then they reimburse you(hopefully).we turned in our paper logs that we had been keeping ,to be evaluated.took a general knowledge multiple choice test .and then they started figuring out who was getting a truck there and who was flying to get one .I ended up flying out to mine.so far I still feel this Co was the best for me.If your thinking about coming ,I highly recommend them.make sure to answer all questions honestly, they will find out the truth.they say they can work with issues but can't work with dishonesty.you will feel overwhelmed in securement training due to volume of info .just take notes and video as you go .the physical aspect might be hard if your not use to labor work, but it's just 8 days.once your on a trainers truck you will only be securing, tarping for a couple hours as needed if your on a long load might be 2 to 3 days.i read a lot about the heat during training.to me it wasn't bad about the same as the so cal inland temps I am use to .I will not be posting more about the day to day unless something really interesting occurs I will post weekly gross numbers as I feel that's what interests most people if you have any questions feel free to ask.see you on the road

Well the pay check for first week solo is in 978 gross.some people will say that's good and some will say it's bad.i had to fly to Ohio to get my truck.was assigned truck on tue and inventoried it.didnt get a dispatch until Thur.have been running what I consider pretty good miles since then.melton doesn't seem to coddle new drivers.we get assigned the same loads as tenured drivers.used my twic on Wed in a Texas port.kinda funny seeing half dozen trucks sitting outside waiting for escorts as I rolled on in.had my first arm pump, and it wasn't a child.lady was approx 75 or so.she was passenger in car to my left.l looked over and she was pumping like crazy.i reached to pull it and paused,I couldn't see the driver and was afraid to spook them.lady looked so sad when I brought my arm down I went ahead and blew it for her.she smiled like crazy and I could almost imagine her doing it as a pigtailed country girl when she was 12 on some Backcountry 2 lane road.if I ever don't cover something your interested in just ask.

When you're brand new and you're getting training plus experience in everything flatbed, that is how the pay goes. It's lower than what you want. Try to think of it as a college level education and yet you don't owe tuition. They actually pay you! After 1 year at Melton you should move up to whatever carrier you want. It's worth it to do the training company. Melton is one of the best.

Rule #1 in trucking, “If someone gives you the arm pump, you honk.” Only exception is if you are in a traffic jam. I used to stand in the front yard at home pumping at the trucks going by, very busy road, and it made my day when someone blew the horn! :D
