My company trainer is a 30-year veteran to the trade. He told me a good investment is a Trucking Atlas, don't rely on my ELD for accurate navigation. Every truck stop has them, so he says. Turns out, our local truck stop no longer carries them, so I plan to get one online. Which one should I get? I see there are a few brands out there.
Headsets- I was issued the kind that goes over my head, but since I wear a hat all the time plus eye glasses, it feels awkward. I was looking at the ear piece style that loops around my ear. Any recommendations there?
Many thanks.
Trucker's Atlas, Headsets, etc recommendations?

I'm gonna go against the forum here probably.
I find my atlas is incorrect pretty often, mainly on smaller roads, and dealing with weight restrictions and length limits. But here is the one I have.

Rand McNally atlas, as far as Bluetooth, I had one that clipped over my ear, and it hurt to wear it for more than a short period of time. Blue Parrot fits over a ball capblairandgretchen Thanks this.

To further the discussion. I use google maps street view more than anything anymore. You can usually find signs that show route restrictions within a 1/4 mile of the turn, right in the turn, or right after.
That has saved me an embarrasing backup or turn around several times.nextgentrucker, bryan21384, Suspect Zero and 5 others Thank this. -
I have a Blue Parrot now. Does the job, but catch see how drivers wear these all the time.Sons Hero Thanks this.

I don’t wear mine all the time… probably should, but can’t stand to have it on for more than an hour or two before I lay it on the passenger seat. Usually until I get a phone call…blairandgretchen Thanks this.

Don’t forget. Every pig “professional” driver needs his uniform.

This. The atlas is great for what it is. But maps and street view are life savers especially satalite view.
This is the one im guilty of lol. I love audio books and generally dont like associateing with drivers outside of restraunts or such and even there id rather listen to a book. So i usually have SOMETHING playing. Though while driving i tend to play through my radio.
OlegMel Thanks this. -
We dont. We hang them on the brake knobs or johnson bar if you got one. Only wear it when a call comes through. Have used parrott for 15 years.

The BlueParrot B550 has been doing right by me so far. I usually get a full shift's worth of usage out of it before it gives me the low battery alert. It works well with the Google Assistant on your mobile device, so you can: send/read text message via voice command, open Google Play Books & Audiobooks via voice command, ask the headset to play a specific song on YouTube or YouTube music; etc.
I'd also recommend that you invest in a Rand McNally Overdrive tablet for more accurate real-time Navigation.OLDSKOOLERnWV, nextgentrucker and blairandgretchen Thank this.
