Welp, went out to feed the cows one more time before I hit the sack myself, as soon as I opened the house door, I smelled hot alfalfa. Headed on over to check it, 201 degrees in several of the bales! They are now all scattered around the driveway until such a time as they cool off. Glad I didn’t wake up to fire trucks outside! That hay shed would almost have guaranteed been ablaze by morning. Kinda puzzled, hay was plenty dry when we baled it. Mowed alfalfa one day, grass hay the next, baled same day, grass hay is cool to the touch. Moved a couple just to be sure, it’s fine. Pick an alfalfa bale up though, and you have steam rolling….
