Okay, so I have read dozens of posts asking about the Company Sponsered Training. Some of you like it some don't. I personally hate the fact that I have to go out on the road with some guy I just met for 4-6 weeks. Seems sorta creepy. Anyhow, the one benefit I see in that is at least you are getting paid. If I were to use an oustide agency such as our local Community College, not only do I have to quit my current job to attend the school full time, but I have to pay out of pocket for the training! SO, I present the question to ALL of you to help me figure out the best way. What should I do???:biggrin_2556:

You will still be with a trainer for X number of weeks if you go with a companys school or thru a College. The companys school will not be out of pocket. You will still have to repay them. At one time some wavied the repayment if you stayed employed the required time. Do some still do this? Look at your options and pick the one you are comfortable with.

There are some driving schools that have nights/weekends programs. I don't know which ones, I just know they exist!

No matter which way you go, you will still be with a trainer for several weeks. I went through training with Prime - several years ago now. Good company, training second to none. When I changed from my former career, I figured if I had $3,000-4,000 to pay for school, I would not need a different job!

First...Eat about six pizzas a day for a year to produce the required weight gain and physical conditioning, During that year...Don't shower or change your clothes! Now for footwear you have choices...Flip flops are the preferred footwear for company drivers but if you insist on wearing shoes don't ever change your socks!

Make sure that you always buy T-shirts that are 7 sizes too small so that your giant mudflap belly hangs out to show off the 20 pounds of mung and belly button lint that you're packin' around.

Never...Ever comb your hair when you get out of bed and pick your ### in public whenever possible.
When you have to pee there are choices you can make too...You can pee in gallon jugs and then keep a few in your truck for air fresheners or you can just open the door on the fuel island and step out on the top step and fire away...Either way is proof positive that you are a trucker!

When you take a dump...Never wash your hands and make sure that you go directly to the buffet from the bathroom so that the full effect is still present when you are pawing through the food that you and others are about to consume.

Above all else...Make sure that you constantly proclaim in a loud voice wherever you are that you are a proffessional driver and that you deserve to be treated with respect wherever you go!

    Welcome to todays trucking industry...

First You have to get fired, laid off, outsourced, downsized or quit your real job! You know the one where you are home every night, get paid for all that you do.
Next, say goodbye to all your family and friends. You wont need them or have time for them where you are going.
then, abandon all thoughts of having a healthy lifestyle, eating good, sleeping at regular times, or regular exercise.
Now, be prepared to spend 95% of your time confined in a fiberglass and steel coffin. Roasting in the summer, freezing in the winter.
Then, give up any notion of civil liberties or personal freedom or privacy.
Forget about the "freedom of the open road, paid to be a tourist" garbage the recruiter told you! You told where to go, how and when to get there at all times! You will see places in this country that few people get to see because no one wants to go to those places including Law Enforcement!
Finally you are ready to start trucking!!!

Dave, I gotta tell ya...I know you had some issues with the industry and your separation from it, but posts like this are just really tiresome. If you're being sarcastic, I fail to see it.

When you find the perfect job, please let all of us know about it. Thank you.

Just my perception and my experience in the last 15 years OTR!
Should my opinion be censored because it doesn't agree with yours? I thought one of the points of this forum was to enlighten future drivers as to what they might encounter? If I lied to the newbie and said my experience was all roses and chocolate, would that make you feel better?
BTW, I am still driving, just not OTR (wouldn't wish that on my enemies!) and have actually gotton a pretty good job, almost perfect. Thanks for asking.

This brings to mind that old saying, " the grass always looks greener on the other side " Through the years I've learned it's because they spread more #### over there.
