Howdy fellas,
I have been looking at diagrams and the transmission itself but haven't really found anything.
Does the 13 speed road ranger have a vent?
Similar to the drive axles? In my head it would have one but I haven't seen anything that looks to be a vent and the diagrams show nothing.
It has been been pushing a bit of the fluid here and there from gaskets. Doesn't drip on the ground even but I like when my stuff doesn't leak any oil.
Going to pressure wash it one more time and then start doing some gasket replacements.
Thanks

There is not a vent. I would assume the shift tower would be enough to prevent it from pressurizing itself.
Oxbow, PSM379 and Kruse Family Farms Thank this. -
Thanks I assumed this was the answer but wanted to make sure I didn't somehow miss it.

There is a breather on the top of the case short housing cover that can get clogged up and it will pressurize the case. Some rebuilders replace them with a 1/4 npt plug but it should be a breather.
SmallPackage, Kruse Family Farms and wis bang Thank this. -
Well the shift tower has an O-ring that seals the top of the ball cause believe it or not splash oil can and will leak out the top. This same o ring is what gets hard and flat lets the finger raise out of the notch in the shift fork and slip out. So no the shift tower does not serve as a vent. The vent is on the left side of the top. Just inside the row of bolts that hold it on. Any rebuilder that puts a plug there I wouldn’t use again. They may put a plug there to keep trash out during shipping and expect you to use your old one I guess……but they #### sure don’t expect you to leave it

Thank you guys for your help! Going to look into it again this weekend. I had it a little bit over full too so I'm sure that didn't help. I checked it with a level this time since I don't have a perfect spot to pull up and work on it. When I changed the fluid I must have had it on a slight slant. I do think I need to change the gasket for the slave and probably the oring around the shift tower and clean the breather. Still shifts and pulls great but I like when my truck isn't all covered in oil and grease even if it is 25 years old.

There’s a gasket under the shift tower along with 3 balls and 3 springs. The o ring is at the top of the tower. The tower needs disassembled to change it
Oxbow and Kruse Family Farms Thank this. -
Thanks! That will probably be the last thing I dig into but it needs done at some point. It must have been fairly new when I bought the truck but I have put almost 400k on it over the years so a few gaskets isn't to bad.

If the vent is plugged it will usually cause the oil to be forced out of the shift tower and it will always leak. That is why some folks think that is the vent. Keep in mind If oil gets out of the tower, water will get in.
Sons Hero, Oxbow, wore out and 1 other person Thank this. -
breather is on top left just above the range selector soliniod. Has rain cap on it. The two pole switch at back right is the reverse light switch. That may be plugged as well because some trucks do not have. The two big 15/16 head bolts on top rear are for the carriage spring support between the frame rails. Again some trucks do not have. The spring is laying across the trans in pic.
