While the regulations go into detail about rating straps, chains, wire rope and a number other securement devices. The one thing that they do not do is specify a particular type of securement device for any situation.

    Agreed.

One we don't know enough. However the way the trailer is beat to crap, it makes me think of a inter port or mill move. Most them guys toss one chain and go. Off road and not subject to regs. Never seen straps used. But more than possible, or even another county.

Also why does it have 2 dollie legs on drivers side?

It may be legal, but IMHO it behooves one to not be so cavalier with something capable of killing you.

Every single load on an open deck is capable of killing the driver if the securement fails. Maybe we should just ban any kind of synthetic webbing for securement if it's so dangerous.

People just think coils are scary because so many ####### loose them from not enough securement and driving like lunatics.

Something that should never happen does happen. The news reports and photos are out there.

The 10 years I drove flatbed we never carried chains and binders and we hauled a fair amount of flat steel, beams, tubing, and rebar. Everyone on the internet would always say we were going to kill peoplr but somehow everything stayed on the trailers. I was more concerned hauling 60” wide mdf or melamine than I ever was with straps on steel.

I don’t have an issue with straps on that load, I have an issue with only one per coil. They’re surely over 1,100 pounds.

If you go back to when it was brought up before there should be a video of it. It looks like he’s in some sort of yard in Mexico and he also has dunnage and at least one tarp just laying loose on his deck.
