Do not block under the ramps on the trailer.

To slide your fifth wheel loaded hook up to the trailer like you normally do. Only set your tractor brakes for now. Then with the tractor suspension aired up go to the back of your trailer and use the regulator/hand valve to lift the trailer suspension as high as you can. Once its maxed out place blocks under the main frame rails as far forward as you can between the deck and the ground. You want to get the blocking as close to the bottom of the frame rails as you can. Once your blocks are in place dump the air in your tractor and trailer. Wait until all of the air dumps from both then set your trailer brakes and release the tractor and you should be able to slide the fifth wheel. Once you have it where you want set the tractor brakes and release the trailer. Air all of your suspension back up and you should be able to get the blocks out. If you cant get them out then get back in the truck and slowly reverse off them.

Don't do this on hot asphalt or you will damage the pavement.

Believe me this works. Here's my 45T stretch loaded and its how I move my fifth wheel all the time with both of my mechanical neck trailers.

Theres no need to cut out any cross members. Make sure you keep your slider track clean and lube it up with something. Literally anything is better than dry. I usually use PB blaster or something like that since its already in the truck for my binders.

The truck he has is fine for what he's doing. It's not far off from my setup and I can max out my 45T stretch RGN. He just needs to rework those ramps and get rid of the stops welded on his slider. He has enough swing with the flip neck to get a bunch of weight on the steer.

@AFC what are all of your axle spacings on that truck? Also if you can get a bobtail weight on the steers and drives.

@Razororange Thank you. I used your exact method for doing the CAT scale and it worked perfectly. I will get back to you on your questions right now. Right now I am trying to get to Texas for a Wednesday morning delivery but I will get a bobtail scale ticket The first chance I get which might be 2 weeks. Trying to go on home time at the end of next week. Attached is a picture of all my axles, spacings. I will in the future use your method for adjusting the fifth wheel. I was able to slide it back easily with a load all the way back and without my collar bones connected to the trailer hopefully that doesn’t impact the neck where it appears to the trailer does it? You keep the 3/8” flatbar crossmember on the slider?(red line) I figured it was mostly there for spacing when setting everything up. We’ve had several damaged and then cut out but never replaced. I figured I would just skip the first step. IMG_8666.jpeg

I've never hit it on my current truck. I always slide the fifth wheel before trying to unhook even when I'm just pulling a normal flat/step. I never know what I'm going to hook next so I just prepare ahead of time by moving it. Also my local guy has to drop standard trailers super low because his truck sits about 6" lower than me so its not uncommon to need the ramps to get under his stepdeck.

I've caught them in the past before I got into the habit of just sliding the fifth wheel. I've never bent one though. Not sure why anybody is unhooking with that much force.

That flat bar also makes a good strong spot to hook chains. I've hooked chains there to flip my neck at a truck stop after loading.

Also had to move my booster into a crane bay one night when the customer's forklift broke down. Hooked chains from that bar over a hardwood 6x6 sitting on the back of the frame and under the bottom of the booster. Was able to back it into the building then go grab my trailer and back under the booster to load.

Your rear axle temp sendor wire is broken. Lol

I'm pretty sure you were aware!

Yeah I know! Had a gator flipped over at me with no where to go. Or it was those flexible popsicle sticks I ran over that one time…I’m not saying which.

Lucky on this piece of #### plastic truck that temp is buried so far back in a menu that’s not displayed unless the axle is over heating. I’ve only see the front drive axle temp once. Might have had something to do with 46k on my 40k drives during the middle of the summer. (I should start my own thread of shenanigans)

My tractor's axle temps reached 215 that was after driving up and down. Virginia and Tennessee had me a little concerned because the red line is at about 250. Is stopping the only way to drop the temp? What about slowing my speed down?

Do you really need that? Bobtail scale ticket isn't my empty scale ticket with my trailer hooked on the better option? Get me a bucket of "A I R"

I have to treat this line of trucking as if I do not know anything.
