Good luck. I don’t think companies not running a background check b4 offering isn’t uncommon a background check can take awhile in some cases depending on how the responding person gets it back. I think some companies are trusting you were truthful on the application and if it turns out you weren’t they deal with it then

So I'm going to Barr-Nunn. Mostly because Walmart hasn't said anything. Also Bison won't hire me. Because clearly my 4 and a half years there means nothing

Finished orientation today. Tomorrow moving stuff into the truck and start hauling stuff. So far things seems fine. But I only know what I have seen in orientation. Which was just me

Ah yes. Barr Nunn. I’ve been here for 3 weeks. 1800-2000 miles a week is all we’re seeing. The driver manager says that’s normal. Run 300-400 miles a day, and then sit for 14-24 hours waiting on the next load. They say the top 50% of drivers earn $102k/year, but I really don’t see how. Even at $.70cpm, you’re only grossing like $1400/wk. You can make more @ $.55cpm and 2800 miles. Plus, they give you 7 full days off, so there’s 2 travel days tacked on there. That’s 9 days with no pay every 21 days. I just can’t make it compute. They have bonuses and pay for other things, but like most every other company out there, you have to meet very stringent requirements to be eligible for stuff like detention or layover pay. Even with all that, I’m showing around $80k gross max.

The trucks are governed at 65 with 68mph PasSmart for 60 minutes. 400hp or 425hp DD15s. No apu. The trucks are bare bones. Like they don’t even have that bendy reading light in the sleeper. They do have air release 5th wheels, which is nice considering we’re 99% drop and hook. They do put TV’s, microwaves, fridges, inverters, and cb’s in the truck. They also have the SiriusXM turned on if that’s your thing. They also give you a new mattress (more on that in a second), new sheets, a pillow, cups, plates, and utensils. So they try to make sure that a new driver is set up with the basic stuff before they head out. About that mattress: honestly, they would be better off just telling you to sleep on the tray, or giving you a piece of cardboard. The mattress is about 2” thick. It is frankly a joke. I bought my own mattress immediately, and gave their mattress to my dogs.

They use Qualcomm for their messaging and logs. It has CoPilot for navigation, but I find the whole system very clunky and outdated. The camera is a 4-way camera. Outside, inside, and both sides. The inward facing camera isn’t turned on, although it really doesn’t need to be as you can basically see what the driver is doing from the reflections on the glass. They don’t record audio, but the camera will speak to you and tell you to slow down or that you’re following to closely etc. That is really a double-edged sword. On one hand, it tells you what you’re doing wrong and gives you a chance to fix it before it sends video to safety. On the other, it micromanages the #### out of your driving. It’s like having an overbearing driver trainer with you in the cab constantly. All the nannies are on in the truck. Even the speed warning that will cut off your cruise control because it still thinks the speed limit is 35 even though you’re on the interstate now. I really don’t mind the other ones so much.

Barr Nunn is super tight on safety. They have an absolute 0 tolerance policy on the driver doing anything with their hands while they are driving. Scrolling through the gps or looking for that 1 song on Spotify will get you fired stat. They warn you over and over, so there’s nobody to blame but yourself if you get fired for it. What I don’t like is how they will send out numerous Qualcomm messages threatening to ruin drivers careers if they are caught doing something with their hands while driving. Like they straight up tell us that they will make so we can’t get hired anywhere.

I know my post seems overly negative (and maybe it is), but I think it’s vital for other drivers to have information like this before they make a commitment so they can make a truly informed decision. I think Barr Nunn would be a good fit for somebody that doesn’t mind a training company atmosphere and the fact that you will get to sit for a good portion of your week waiting on work. If y’all have any questions, I’ll do my best to answer them.

So far almost a week in. It doesn't seem horrible to me. Yes I'm making driving up to 6 or 7 hours a day. But technically I'm running recaps. Since they included all of my hours from orientation. Am not liking the amount of night driving. I will just see how it goes. Also even though they offer me 7 days at home. I will probably only take max 4. It's just a waiting game. Also yes the safety trash in these freightliners I very much hate. But what I do is that until it reads the actual speed limit. I keep my foot on the pedal. But so far truck is nicer than the Western Star I drove before

It’s definitely not horrible by any stretch, rather it’s just a different way of operating. The night driving wouldn’t be so bad if they would keep you on a consistent schedule. It’s the flipping back and forth between that kills you. 1 day, you’re delivering at 6am. The next, you’re picking up at 6am.

I’ve been driving for a long time, and I have been with my fair share of companies. In my veteran opinion, it seems that Barr Nunn simply doesn’t have the freight to keep their drivers busy. For example, I delivered at 7pm last night. My next load doesn’t pick up until 6pm tonight, and it’s a whopping 260 mile run. I’m in the Northeast right now. I’ll have that load finished by about 11pm tonight, and then I’ll sit for another 14 hours waiting on something else. If you like running that way, then more power to you. But if I’m going to be away from home, I want to be busy.

My wife and I are thinking of going back to team driving and have been looking into Barr Nunn. Seen mostly good but also seen a lot of people complaining about sitting and that they’re very quick to write people up over little things. How true is this? Any one know how teams are treated there?

So Barr Nunn factors at 50mph. That’s part of the sitting problem. I have had loads that have 650 miles between pick up and delivery that they make me split with another driver because they think it’s too close. Their whole game is making that on-time delivery, and they would rather be safe than sorry at the expense of screwing the driver out of better miles. For teams, you will get longer loads (and more loads), but don’t expect traditional otr team miles.

I have no experience with the write-ups, and I haven’t seen that outside of their 0 tolerance handheld policy. Safety can be overbearing with the amount of messages they send out, but I see that more as a by-product of being owned by Knight/Swift than anything. I have been treated very fairly here. I do my job, and they leave me alone. Unfortunately, being treated fairly doesn’t make up for the fact that I’m sitting way more than I’m driving.

I did get a call earlier claiming my 14 was about up. Because looks like on their end. It doesn't show sleeper split. Also currently load I got is around 14k lbs. Told to scale it.... That's a waste of time because no way it's overweight
