DEF last a long time as long as you don't leave it open. $60 to fill at the pump 4 times and you've paid the cost of a tote.

for one truck, would a 55 gallon drum work or if I’m going to have it in the yard just do the 250 tote? I hate the thought of wasting plastic jugs, but that’s what our oil sales weasel says to do,

I’m trying to make educated guesses for running costs on my next tractor, going to look at a glider this week but I have a feeling it going to be more of a reminder of why I started looking at new trucks to begin with

For me, it would depend on delivery. Will you be the one moving the drums around? Is there a delivery charge for a tote? 55 gallons should get you 9-10k miles, give or take. A couple totes per year should get you 100k miles. Do you want to mess with a drum monthly or a tote every 6 months?

The problem we have had with any bulk DEF is dealing with the crystalization on the spout of the hose. It never caused an issue, but getting those crystals in the tank can't be good.

Need to use gravity feed or the stainless pump cost quite a bit. Plastic pumps fail pretty fast. Would need to have a stand for the drum and a way to pick it up.
I have the tote on a stack of pallets, they come every week and refill it.

It melts right back in, not near enough to change the density.
