Unfortunately, things haven't been going so well the past few weeks. My miles are way down, in part due to coming home approximately every 3 weeks. No loads coming this way, none leaving. This means to get home and back on the road, I have to deadhead. This past week, I sat from Friday evening until Monday afternoon in Springfield IL. I got a load from Decatur to Indy and sat all day yesterday with only 2 load offers. Both had about 120 miles of deadhead to pick up, without any deadhead pay.

I'll be honest, I'm not sure I am going to be able to continue. If I come home, my miles go down to about 500 - 750 per week. By the time I figure in the fuel to get home and get out, it just doesn't seem I'm making anything. Also, the hubby is beginning to not like me being gone so much.

So in that way it is like every other trucking job! Everything is great until you do something silly like go home! :biggrin_2556:

I see Cosby, MO is close to KC. It would seem that the KC area would be a good area for your type of freight.

Sorry to hear that you are thinking about giving up!!Hang in there. Better days will come if you hold on. Has the Hubby considered teaming up with you? I would love to do that with my wife, but we would need to get out from under all of our debt........that's not happening anytime soon!!!!Besides my wife loves her goats too much to give them up!!I would love to get out there and see the country.

It must be awesome to wake up to a new view out your window everyday and the excitement of not knowing where you will be off to next. But, I guess it does come with a lot of sacrifice. Especially if you have a spouse at home that misses you!!

The job is not worth sacrificing your marriage! There are other jobs out there.

Yeah, I know, there are other GUYS out there too. But if you have a good marriage, to sacrifice it for a job just doesn't seem right. IMNHO anyhow.

Yeah, rocknsand, I thought the KC area would be good also, but there isn't much expedite freight that comes out of there. I see you live in Tongie. We had planned to sell our house and move there last year. I love it over there. If I could find a job down in that area, driving or otherwise, I'd still like to move there.

Tibzy, the hubby has no desire to go out with me. To be honest, I'm a pretty patient person, and all the sitting is taking it's toll on me. He has no patience with sitting, so I don't know that I could take him being along and having to sit in a van for days...LOL.

Big Don, I don't plan to sacrifice my marriage for this. If anything, I have to say this has possibly brought us a little closer together. It was quite a shock for hubby to admit to me that he missed me and would rather I be home. I'm going to talk with Fed Ex here in St Joe and see if they have any driver positions open for ground or home delivery.

While I've been here, I have actually got 2 fairly decent loads; not great, but better than what I usually get while home.

I agree that it would put a lot of strain on a marriage. That is the main reason why I am not out there right now. Not to mention I can't afford to. If my situation were different, I would love that job(Expediting). My fulltime job as a heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) Technician is very stressful.I make really good money, but money isn't everything!! I have been doing this for 21 years and trucking for about 5 part time. I like the trucking a lot better. When I'm working!!!

It seems like a Catch 22. You miss one another when apart, but being together if you are just sitting can be quite a strain, also.

When I was making nothing it was a hardship, but now that I am working, it seems to be a hardship, also. While on the road driving, it isn't so bad, but when you are just sitting, every penny you spend seems extravagant. You become shy about getting something to eat or drink, do laundry, take a shower, run your vehicle to stay warm. It's tough in more ways than just one.

It must be very hard to budget if you don't know when the money will be coming in. You have to be able to start out with some working capitol. A nestegg that you can draw off of and put back in when you can. From what I can see that is the only way to manage it.
