Many states in the east do this, I know North Carolina has been using a tire anomaly detection system for a number of years......

So if your not running on bad tires its not a issue. Pretrip your equipment.bryan21384, BlackjackCo, Trucker61016 and 3 others Thank this.

Idaho has a system like that as well.

I do pre-trip and assumed they had systems. Just didn't realize AI was involved. I've always believed tires are one of the most crucial factors of safe and least expensive driving in my personal vehicles, let alone in a truck running 105,000 lbs down the road.
Thankfully I also work for a company that has great mechanics and doesn't nickel and dime with our equipment.... We are kept on quality rubber and if there's any questions by any member of the team it's repaired or replaced. I had a set of steers that appeared great by all inspections, tread, pressures etc with less than 15000 miles on them ... But just didnt "feel" right in my steering (you all have been around enough to learn your rig and what it "feels" like normally. When I brought it to shop my mechanics didn't even question it. They replaced the tires and used them on a farm truck just driving around the farm dirt circles.... A couple weeks later one of those tires blew at low speed at the farm..... Not on me driving heavy at 70 mph
I've mentioned it on other forums, but it's not just the pay when you choose who to work for. One of the things I love about working here is that neither the mechanics or owners even balk if I need something fixed on my rig -
That last paragraph is some good but of wisdom there. The mechanic shop where I work, is what sold me on coming to this company. The idea is to keep the cash flowing, and if the equipment isn't right, the cash don't flow.Oxbow, kylefitzy, Gearjammin' Penguin and 2 others Thank this.

Biggest problem with this system is flagging for mismatched size tires. Like when a new tire of same size is mounted next to a used one. It assumes the used one is flat because it’s overall diameter is shorter than the one next to it. Same thing with mismatched plus one sizes. 11’s next to 295/75’s etc. that is a waste of time for inspectors.
And yes truck tires are hollow inside. Lol.Oxbow Thanks this. -
Yep, I got popped in Idaho for a flat inner trailer tire. She knew exactly which tire without even leaving the booth.
Got a warning but I suspect if it happens again it will cost me..Oxbow and BoostedTeg Thank this. -
Maybe not, they understand things happen going down the road, at least thats been my experience, It is suppose to be about safety for all of us, lets hope it is a true concept.Concorde Thanks this.

Lol guess it's been good we keep good tires and pre trips.... I didn't realize Idaho had this and I go thru 3-6 (3 up, 3 back) of their ports at least 3 time a week. Only pulled in one time when my rear tag axle had lost some pressure (usually run it at 60 psi it was down to 40 that trip) and it put 600 lbs too much weight on rear axle group.... $80 ticket.
