It can be. But like I said...My best two jobs came from there. Just keep your eyes and mind open for red flags. Talking with them reveals much. If they're cheating. It will show. It will also show if they're candid and honest.
I like the idea of working food service local. Get that exercise. You'll need it.

    You are having trouble understanding.

There are more of the smaller fleets than there are megas. These mainly run local/regional. These usually do not hire rookies, however there are the big manufacturers and warehouses that will have contracts with the megas, like Krogers/Peytons. Krogers has their own trucks, bigger carriers like Ruan, their Peyton warehouses will have FirstFleet. FirstFleet has smaller carriers contracted on pulling FirstFleet trailers. What you see is Ruan and FirstFleet. What you don’t see are the tons of smaller carriers pulling basically unmarked trailers sitting in the big warehouse and DC docks. What’s the difference between the mega carriers at Kroger than the contracted smaller fleets? The main one is less handholding and cattle prods in the trucks. Pay will usually be the same or better for the smaller fleet since they don’t have to pay for hand holders and nannies. There are more of these types jobs than there are megas on the road.

Assuming the wannabe truck driver has a decent record, if local is non negotiable, all he has to do is take a warehouse job, get through the hiring probation period and the warehouse/terminal manager will get the wannabe through CDL school and cover everything. They will hire in-house every day of the week. So, YES, a brand new rookie can start out in a rig day one driving local. Just because most are too lazy to look or work in a warehouse for a month or 2 does not mean it is a rarity, it means that most are LAZY.

On the other hand, the wannabes with the bad records, bad work ethic and bad work history…they wouldn’t be able to see these jobs if they looked. Best way for them to get started will be the mega carrier circus.

I agree. Craigslist has a lot of shady jobs and some good jobs. I got my highest paying job on Craigslist. Any company can post a job so they do. It's up to the job shopper to screen out the unacceptable jobs. But most people now are trained to accept someone else's word rather than research on their own and then they blame the world for not being a very good nanny to them.
