Well as a local driver that hauls cars, but used to haul fuel and chemicals, that’s how you can make $140k a year and be home everyday. But it’s a grind. Getting up at 00:30-0130 everyday, working 10-14 hours a day. Having one week day, and one weekend day off every week. I’ve noticed the local car haulers work a lot of saturdays. I love being home everyday, but it’s a grind no doubt.

I run a meet and turn with a 70mph tractor. My run is M/f and 628 miles a day. It takes me 9hrs 50mins from gate to gate to turn it. Our vacation/holiday pay is based on the previous years earnings so when you take a vacation.or your off on a holiday you're not losing any money. Our mileage rate is .8498cpm, we get drop/hook/fuel pay which on my run is $126.00 a week.

6-12's with a commute and a 34 off is why a lot of these jobs pay so much. You exist to work, have no free time for anything, and pay all the cost of living and can't live out of the truck like OTR.

If you are running local and over 60 hours a week with more than a 10 min commute you'd be money ahead to live in the truck OTR with no expenses for 70-80k/yr vs 130k/yr local.

Yeah, car hauling is in a league of its own as far as I’m concerned. That’s a whole different ballgame. Lol at least it seems you’re getting fairly compensated for it.

I do work hard when I'm at work but paid time off is how I take off so much time. I earned the maximum 23 days of PTO this year by early November. I also earned 4 quarterly days of it for safe driving every quarter. That's 5 weeks and 2 days of PTO this year. I get 26+4 next year so 6 weeks off We can also take a leave of absence (LOA) if we need to. It's unpaid unless you have the PTO to cover it. That’s how I missed a month unpaid. I had to do it though it couldn't be helped. LOA freezes and protects your ADP from dropping. My average daily pay (ADP) is $470 so each day of PTO pays me $470. It takes me 100 hours to earn 1 day (10 hour day) of PTO. I think I had all 23 PTO days earned by early November. We get 60 hour weekends every week too none of that 34 hour BS. Same schedule every week like clock work.

Please explain your math. I personally don't work 12hrs a day but if I did I'd rather be home half the day and make $30,000 more a year. Just the amount you're putting in a retirement with $30,000 more income a year would be huge. I'm putting in 15% of $146,000 which is a hell of alot more than 15% of $80,000.

That's the same for us. I go in at the same time every day and get back at the same time everyday. We don't run on our 34. My run pays $561 a day and I work 52hrs a week. I get 4wks vacation and my birthday off with pay. If I run the holiday it's at whatever the run pays plus my normal days pay which would be between $1100/$1200 for the day.

Not trying to get into a pissing match. We don't get holiday pay and only 2 holidays off. Thanksgiving Day and Christmas day all 14,000 or however many drivers we have are at home those 2 holidays. You can schedule holidays off and cover, or not, with PTO if you want. You can pick a schedule on rebid every year that meshes with whatever holiday you really want off. There's a lot of ways to get whatever holiday you want off, off while here. It's not some insurmountable "never going to happen" sort of deal. I always get the 4th of July off or the whole week leading up to it. You can make time for holidays here if that's what you want.

There's also plenty of drivers well over $500 a day here with nice schedules and/or good set runs. Every week I burn just about all 70 hours on my clock. Not because I'm running ragged and have to. If I'm done for the night at the DC and still have 3 hours left on my 14 - I stay on the clock accrue PTO, hourly pay and burn up that clock maximizing earnings. I mean I'm likely at about 60 hours every week and probably about 35 of that driving. I "could" go home a couple of nights a week if I needed to or wanted to. I don't because I dont need to and it cuts into the paycheck if I do.

I'm not in a pissing match with you. I told you my son worked there, I have buddies who work there. I never said WM wasn't a good job. I know how hard you guys work. If I wanted to go back OTR WM would definitely be where I'd want to go.
