    Hi Mark,
Thanks for starting this thread and the other one also. I've been following both since the start. I have a Garmin 765 but was looking to get a "Trucker GPS" and the info on these threads convinced me to get the TND 700. I purchased it yesterday at a TA and was very impressed with the unit and all the features. I charged it up as required and then proceeded to play around with it. I used it driving today and it worked flawlessly. I then tried to install it on my computer and that's where things got bad. After many problems of USB port compatability it finally hooked up for a very short time and then an error message on the 700 said "System file missing, call customer support. That's not good because no one is there on Sunday. Any suggestions? Thanks

I hope you saved your receipt. Your TND 700 has had a internal file corruption. Take it back to a TA and let them exchange it. If none are available let me know and I will get our Support team into play.

Let the TA know that no updating will correct this. And let them know you talked to the Rand McNally Lead Beta Tester.

    Thanks,
    Mark

If you had done a full backup and had a Micro SD card then I could have sent you the files you needed to reflash the OS. I can send out anything over the internet except the NaviMaps. 2.5gb..

A full backup copies all the files on the TND to your computer. When you get your next one, do a FULL backup.. it will take about an hour.

Let me know how it turns out.

    Thanks,
    Mark

I updated around April 25th. I believe it was already ver 1472 prior to that, but I wouldn't swear to it.

Some of the problems I'm having are: When I put in an address it goes to calculate the route and it hangs there for a really extended period of time before it comes up with the route. Not always, but quite often.

While driving along, out of the blue, it will go crazy and start saying random things, like, do a u turn when possible, or turn right in 400 feet on xxxroad, for no reason and the roads it might say to turn on, don't even exist in that area.

The other day I tried to turn it on and it wouldn't do anything. I finally remembered the reset button, did that and it came on.

On one trip, it calculated the route, before leaving, I went through the route step by step to make sure I was in agreement with it. Began the trip and about 200 miles into the trip it told me to turn off onto a highway......... the original calculation had me staying on 80/90 into Ohio which is what I wanted to do. I just ignored it's suggestion and kept going and it tried to get me to turn off on every road that was coming up. Finally it gave up and went back to the original route plan. Why would it change routes in the middle of the drive?

Another thing I've noticed, and this was a problem before the update, after I make a delivery, I like to go to POI and look for the nearest truck stop. It will bring up a list and show the mileage. It never fails that whatever mileage it shows will not be the mileage once you select it and it calculates the route. It is usually off by 10 to 20 miles. Why can't it be right in the POI screen?

Another thing it has been doing, if you miss a turn and it recalculates, it takes forever, and you just have to figure things out on your own cause you can't wait for it. It didn't use to have that problem.

If it was a computer I would think it had a virus because it is just doing some wacky stuff. Any suggestions?

Make sure under preferences\route settings that nothing is set to avoid. This is an know issue with 1472.

POI when you just do a search is "the way the crow flies" mileage. If it gave you correct mileage on a search the TND would have to calculate each and every POI found on a search. This would drain resources. So to give you a fast estimate it goes by the way the crow flies.

    thanks,
    Mark
