now i hear a lot of badmouthing about prime and before you bad mouth the company you might consaider this, it is a good place to learn how to be an owner operator, is it expensive? as a matter of fact it is BUT ask yourself this, whre can you go and get a new truck and trailer with nothing down and no credit check ? i no of no place in fact they will laugh you off there lot at prime you can, and no i do not work for prime, but i did about 12 years ago in the flat bed division and i did in fact make money, but the only way to do that is a lot of miles minumum 3000 per week if you don't make that your not going to make it just not enough money it take a lot of money to pay the bills.

i quit because they along with a lot of the industry started with these short runs , now if you think you can make more money with a short run your going to get a big surprise, you can not. prime refused to give me milage and long runs and quite frankly i give them back there truck with my blessings but untill then things were fine, and i got news i do not take short runs today if that is the best they have to offer ill just stay home ill make more money at home.

now its been a long time sinch i worked for prime and all companys change over time so they may not be the same but that is the only problem i had with them in fact i liked the company it was the dispatch i had the problem with it got so bad that when i decided to leave i knocked the little didpatcher off his little thrown got im the truck and headed to fl and made trhem come and get there truck both halves it just does not pay to lie to me when it comes to money and i think they learened a lesson , after i left they fired the dispatcher and reorganised dispatch and never charged me with the truck and as a matter of fact they clled me for three weeks trying to get me to come back but it dosent work that way once a close a door i don't open it again.

my point is if you can't get the miles no matter the company you can not pAy for the truck and there is good and bad with all trucking compamys and by god they all lie to you.

just do some research before you sign then decide don't just jump in.

Primes deal is much different than ryders becuase it's a rippoff read what I said ALL maint oil changes ,lightbulbs, tires brakes hell they give an air freshner. I'll give you the fuel taxes but not the 2290 . With ryders full service lease you will never pay for as much as a quart of oil, how 'bout prime, duh

In our operation the fuel bill on a Ryder truck spec'd to run inside a city will kill your bottom line... How 'bout that Ryder?

Kevin Rutherford was saying the other night that the rear-end ratio spec'd for Ryder is way high... great for light loads and high speed. A light load for me is 75,000 GVW... our machines are spec'd very differently. I don't see Ryder as being any better than Prime - yeah, we may buy a few light bulbs, but the warranty covers everything major - and the mileage fee is included in the payout bonus at the end of the lease.

if i called prime in the morning and asked them to fax the exact copy of the contract i will be signing, to my lawyer, so he can review, will they do this with batting an eye?
If they make a fuss about, why?

They didn't for me... They had all kinds of excuses like I might try to copy the contract for my own use, it is against Prime's policy, we don't draw up the contract until you go to orientation, etc... Each time was something different and I would counter to get another excuse...

I don't know who Kevin Rutherford is so his input means nothing , but let me ask you this what about non warranty items like brakes, a/c tires, clutch, radiators, chrg air coolers and the list goes on ,who pays for that?
