Dumping the air from a single axle means letting the air all out or "exhaustingL it. The bags on the other axle stay inflated. Or, I can dump both at the same time but I only do this when backed into the dock

If your running a tag axel you can also raise and lower them with a dump..we had setups like that on our flowboys when I drove for a paving company..
-
just takes the load off the axle reefer-flat dump whatever with a switch in the cab is a no-no but we all do it for conveniance in ga if they ask you if switch is in cab they delete that axle and get you never admit to anything and you will be alright.

Thanks for the answers...starting to understand now.

You're right pounder. Which reminds me that to legaly get around the law with a spread tandem would be to actually have a lift, which mine is not equiped with. That s the way I read the rule anyway.

I have to be honest I never knew it was illegal to have your dump switches in cab.....
My 2001 Pete which I bought new came wired from the factory with two switches on the dash for dump valves and they were labled as such.. -
When you dump the air out of the rear axle it takes the pressure off
that set of tires allowing them to glide over the ground or pavement
thus not causing as much tire wear.
When you do this the trailer will pivot on the front axle allowing for
tighter turns and easier backing maneuvers.otherhalftw and Saddle Tramp Thank this. -
yeah, I see spread reefers running down the road with the front axel up once in a while..
-
I've never been caught or even asked about mine, but if caught I figgure just unplugging the pigtail (newbs - its a second pigtail) would be a quick way to be in compience, depending on the attitute of the dieslebear
-
Always wondered (never asked) why there were two pigtail connections on some trucks! thanks!
