I had wanted to drive again to make the money myself but that isnt gonna happen. Again thanks for the info guys, and no hard feelings to the pieces of crap that responded. I work at the truck stop in Calera, OK. I'll keep the food fresh and the toilets clean for you guys. I put "Trucker Apreciation Week" on my calender at work so the bosses will put something together for you all.

When you get your CDL you make the choice to leave childish stuff behind. I don't think you should be ruined for life because of one bad choice. But, we as true professionals cannot play with things like this. It's too easy to kill yourself or someone else on the road without the added factor of being high. Good luck finding work but you will probably be hosed when it comes to getting a good job. You will probably have to take a crappy job and clean up your record. My advice is to apply around see what people say and if your lucky enough to get a job stick with it and leave drugs and booze alone.

If you use illegal drugs and think you are going to drive a vehicle then you need a kick in the *** and your license taken away permanently....That goes for drinking intoxicated or under the influence.....Nobody cares if you die if your wired on coke or speed but its all the innocent lives around you.Think about it.

this thread reminds me of a dockworker from my work i talked to today

i asked him if he thought about getting his CDL and driving (you will literally quadruple your salary in 3 years time this way)

he said "yea i want to...but i smoke weed and i dont want to give it up"

i think its sad somebody would choose a drug over seriously improving your life/career

but oh well, to each his own

This is one of the "Pieces of Crap" talking to you Ozzy.... and to any others who think "it's no different than booze".

Frankly, I don't give a #### what you do with your own "life"; just like I could care less about those #######es who die with a needle in their arm or a can of shoepolish in some flophouse or alleyway. Their choice, their result. #### shame, but hey!!

What I DO care about is the fact that you ###-monkeys think you're due some special dispensation or consideration for being stupid. Have any of you idiots ever seen a car full of kids crushed under an 18-wheeler. Have you ever seen a dad or mom crying their hearts out because they survived a crash but their babies didn't? Ever seen a wrecker driver picking up a death car and finding a baby rattle in it?

THOSE are the people I care about. THOSE are the people whose right to a life and family take precidence over your "right" to get high.

Ozzie, you don't like being told the truth. Too bad, sucks being you. Thank you at least for leaving my industry. I honestly wish you success in your future life. I honestly hope that someday you'll grow up and have a sweet family of your own. I honestly hope and pray that it never happens that some stoner or drunk rips them away from you. But if it does, remember what you've been told here.

To answer a point someone tried to make earlier, marijuana is not the same as alcohol. The drug class is completely different, the part of the brain affected is not the same and the length of time it takes to be eliminated is different.

About the only thing they have in common is you get high on both.

Alcohol works by inhibiting certain receptors in the brain resulting in loss of motor control (slurred speech, poor coordination) a feeling of euphoria and in many cases drowsiness. This is in moderate use. Excessive use may result in blackouts, depressed breathing rate and long-term liver damage, among other things.

Marijuana works by stimulating certain other parts of the brain which results in loss of depth perception, short term memory loss, loss of time concept, a different type of euphoria and, often, hunger. Again, this is in moderate use. Excessive use can result in paranoiac episodes, long term memory loss and suppressed libido among other things.

    Drunks drool....potheads have cotton mouth.

It takes hours to eliminate alcohol from the body. It takes weeks to eliminate pot.

Don't take me wrong here...I'm not against someone firing up a dooby once in a while as long as it's legal in your state to do so. I just don't want that same person on the road next to me in another big truck. There's a reason CDL holders cannot take certain legal prescription medications, even some that are not controlled substances. There are, for example, certain antidepressants we are not allowed to take.

As to cleaning up the aftermath of a drugged or drunk driver...been there, done that. I was responding to this crap for ten years before I got my CDL. I often hear, "Nobody that smoked a joint ever went out and caused a wreck." It is a lie. I have seen it first hand.

You wanna get high? Knock yourself out. Just stay your butt home and don't expect me to pay for your decision later in life.

:biggrin_25513:What i don't understand is why people want to throw their lives away doing drugs & booze. My step-brother wasted his life on heroin, & pot. My dad was a beer bum. such a waste. My dad is dead, I don't know about my step-brother.:biggrin_25513:

Ozzy, I know my only advice is would of, should of, and could of. Should of gave them the sample and went to the boss or maybe they had a 800# to explain your story of what was around you that night. Sometime a little dope that shows up companies might give you a second chance when not under the influece. Now quiting your job just before a random shows people you might of had more to hide and might of been ok if not a regular user. I don't use drugs for many reasons to know that, but don't hide from randoms, thats a huge no no to others. Sorry since the past can't be change but maybe someone else will learn if they run into the same problem. I just hope they take the easy way out and not use.
