You definitely should since they told us they weren't offering that training to noobs nor was it a mainstay of freight in the Swift world. I'd be interested to see what you have to say.

I am at home in Stigler Oklahoma awaiting a mentor so I can begin my own Swift experience...
After researching so many companies, it would seem that Swift is the lessor of the evils when it comes to brand new drivers. I am a 15 year computer geek who has been out of a job for a long time, and decided to make a career change. Driving a desk to driving a truck, a whole new adventure.
I appreciate everyone on here who has posted, especially the diary, kinda gives a glimpse into the life of a Swift driver, lets me know what I can expect. Hopefully I can get up to that Columbus Ohio terminal, that is where I was born and raised, and I'd like to visit my folks there if I have the time.
I'll be on here from time to time reading about your experiences while I'm on the road, so by all means, please keep posting!MoneyCat and Schmidtrock Thank this. -
Fanndango, ask your DM when you get one to get you through the Columbus terminal for a 34 hour restart. Most DM's will try to get you there. With freight being strong right now I bet you can get sent just about anywhere you want as long as it's in a strong freight lane.

Sweet, yea that is my hope. My DM will be outta OKC, small group there so I should be able to get to know him personally. Perhaps they will be cooperative. :O)

I apologize for the big gap with my posts. It's just been crazy, and I haven't had the energy to keep up with this. Seems like everything that could go wrong the last few weeks, has.
I'm at home now. I'll be coming back to work on Wednesday. I'll pick up the thread again then. -
I came back to my truck this morning to find a preplan waiting for me. It's a live load at DuPont in Washington, WV, and is a live unload in Byron Center, MI (pd miles 505). For those who have been following the thread, this load will sound familiar. I just did the same load a few weeks ago.

I made a Boo-boo!
OK, from Byron Center, I went to Kellogg in Grand Rapids to pick up a preloaded trailer going to West Jefferson, OH as a drop (pd miles-305). Then it was on to the terminal in Columbus to get a T-called trailer which was to drop in Winchester, VA (pd miles-349). Turned out the trailer hadn't gotten there yet, so I waited a few hours for it. When it did arrive, there were four bad tires I had to get replaced. By the time I hit the road, the schedule was tight, but I was able to squeak in just before the deadline.
After dropping, they sent me a preplan to deadhead down to Albany, GA to the Miller Coors plant there to get a preloaded trailer going to Beaufort, SC as a live unload (pd miles-993). Another tight schedule. When I got to Albany, someone had cut one of the tailights off the trailer. (This makes no sense to me. I've had people steal lights before, but why cut the wires????) So I called Onroad, but they couldn't get any of the after hours people (this was on Sunday) to answer their phone. They finally told me to take it to our Decatur (Atlanta) terminal. I didn't have time to do that and still make delivery ontime, so I made the call to drive with the tailight missing and get it fixed after delivery.
I unloaded in Beaufort and hustled over to Summerville, SC for a live load going to Warren, MI (pd miles- 873). This is where I made the Boo-boo. I knew my 70 was running low, butI though I would pick up more hours starting on the 23rd. I was wrong. I don't get more hours until the 24th. Well, this load was scheduled to deliver by 06/23 2300 at the latest. I got to New Boston, MI last night, and I only had 1.25 hours left for today. That's not enough to get up to Warren, make delivery, and get back out. So I called the JIT hotline and they told me it would be OK to deliver a couple hours late. I can start at 2245 tonight, which will use up the 1.25 hours I've got left, then at midnight, I pick up 8.5 hours, so I'll be legal.
BTW, on my way from Summerville to New Boston, I stopped at Greer and got the tailight replaced.
