I see that drivers are required to have 10 hours of consecutive downtime every day. I would imagine that's why we have truckers pushing through for 12 to 14 hours at a time with few to no stops in between. I'll be sure to take some breaks and such, but I plan to really push for the 14 hours or so that I am able to get some miles behind me.

I've also learned that a "reefer" is a truck that hauls colder items, and since it's refrigerated, makes a lot of noise at night. I should avoid parking next to one at a truck stop if I want to get a good night's rest. :biggrin_255:

Hey ORG- find some threads on the HOS rules 11 hr drive 14 total on duty time or you are out of regulation. IT can get dicey when you start adding in all the things like traffic, constuction, breaks etc
Yes reefer dry van and flat beds
You are learning keep it up!!

I did reefer when I drove. Not bad because they can haul dry as well which gives you more options to get loaded. Read half way or your posts ORG. You might be going to the feild of freight? If you get in and don't like it the experiance will help you to advance. But you have to put some time in and the money won't be that great. When I drove the first thing I noticed was how limited you are to find parking when not a truckstop. Reefer that run right are quiet but I had to leave it on to run continueus. Hate the on and off all night. Also get some of those foam ear plugs because truckstops can be noisey such as air brakes from another truck driving around the lot. Good luck.

I would at least of thought you'd be responsible enough to wait until your offtime! Sorry, I couldn't resist....

I'm assuming I'll be doing OTR to start with, and hauling standard freight in a standard trailer. I don't know where I'll go from there, but certainly as I gain experience I'll haul loads that pay more.

I'm in this for the money. I understand it won't be there the first year, but beyond that I fully expect to begin to make a decent living, and after two or three years, I'd like to be able to make a good living.

How many endorsements are there anyway? I know there's Hazmat, which I plan to get right away. I'm assuming there are others?

Drivers who operate special types of CMVs also need to pass additional tests to obtain any of the
    following endorsements on their CDL:

If a driver either fails the air brake component of the general knowledge test or performs the skills
test in a vehicle not equipped with air brakes, the driver is issued an air brake restriction,
restricting the driver from operating a CMV equipped with air brakes

found this in site call: cdldigest
hope that helps-I am sure you will hear more but I know hubby needs to get hazard still but I do believe he is holding off cuz you have to renew that more often than reg CDL.

Since so many of these are knowledge based, I'm wondering how hard it would be for me to pick up a couple of these endorsements in addition to my hazmat. I'm sure the more endorsements I gain, the more desirable I would be to an employer, and obviously the more flexibility I would have in terms of the jobs I could select from.

Thanks so much for the information!
