Hopefully it goes fast. Kick Ernie in the nuts for me, and every new guy that he is going to lie to.

    Panhandle,
been reading this thread and others about Trans Am, so I have two more weeks in CDL school here in Virginia. Looks like I may sign on with TA in July, spoke with Christy today and she said three weeks with a trainer, and you may have to wait for a truck? Just curious, other than getting an older truck which is expected, do they run just KW's, and do you run all over or coast to coast? TA seems somewhat better than most starter companies from what I've heard, except for the lease option? Thanks for any info.

All company trks are KW's tho you'll see some O/O's with other types occasionally.
Coast to coast? Not so much. Mostly be from the midwest to the NE.

Woo hoo!!!! Got the trk in 1 day. Had slight problems with the xfer from 1 trk to the other tho. Rain, rain, and more rain!!!! It only had a shade over 200 grand when I got it, so should be able to keep it a couple of years or until I get the required experience in and find a good company.

Has anyone ever worked for TransAm? If so, what did you think of them? I also hear they have automatic trucks? Is this true?

Yes, their entire fleet is automatic. I start with them on Wednesday, so I'll be able to answer a lot more after that, but I know Panhandle works there and has been very helpful to me, so ask away and we'll do our best to answer.

Congrats on your New truck Panhandle. So I understand that you may have to wait awhile for a truck if you want to be a company driver, if so, do they continue to pay $50 a day and put you up in the Super 8 while waiting? Also do they withhold a weeks pay after you start and does the trainer run the truck like a team or simply sit and watch? I'm waiting for response from them, have submitted all paper work and I have two more weeks of school. Thanks for any info.

Danny, use the search function in the upper right corner and you can find all the TA threads that way. I'm on all of them and alot of your questions will be answered.

Mattaponi guard, Sounds like your going to Rockwall. No more Super 8 there. Moved to a much nicer motel. Holiday Inn I think. As far as I know, they do still continue to pay the $50 a day and they should put you up in a motel. Olathe maybe a different story since they have drvr rooms/ prison cells there to stay in.

Trainers, they have both the good and the bad and it'll all be the luck of the draw. Call training immidiately, if you don't think you have a good one. Some will run as teams if they think your ready for it. IMHO, any trainer that tries to team the 1st week should be replaced and not allowed to train anymore. Also, IMHO, if the student is good, has watched the neccassary video's and done all his home work AND if the trainer feels comfortable, after a week and a half, teaming should be ok. Trainer should be allowed some compesation afterall for having to give up personal space. I'd be a good trainer but these trks are just to dang small for me.
If you survive your training and didn't like the trainer, get a hold of me here and will PM my phone # to you and will help out all I can.

All new drivers or wannabes, take this to heart and remember this. You are a VERY SMALL cog in a large machine. Your needs and wants are VERY FAR down the totem pole.
