i have read some threads lately, and some of them state there orientation class started with like 20 people and ended w/ 10 or fifteen. what is the reason for this. what would cause you to "fail" orientation and be sent home. i thought they did background checks and what not before you even came so y would people not make it other than the physical. thanks for replying in advance.

Your first mistake was attempting to put LOGIC and COMMON SENSE in the hiring process and especially in this industry. The company isn't going to waste the time and effort in doing background checks (not to mention the cost per individual) on an applicant that isn't guaranteed to show up for the orientation process. they base the "invitation" to join their ranks based on what you put on your application...little or nothing at all has been verified prior to the applicant showing up at orientation.
1. DMV check will get one or two from the person forgetting about the little (85 in a 35 zone) speeding ticket 7 years ago.
2. Any gap in employment, undocumented, will get the next group.
3. Blood pressure issues are next, and the newest is the BMI (Body Mass Index).
4. And finally the ones who get "creative" with unverifiable general information on the application. -
What???? Applicants fibbing or leaving things out on their applications? The next thing you know you'll be telling me that company recruiters LIE!!!

Recruiters are the most truthful people on the planet. It's true. The Navy recruiter I had told me so. He was bound by core values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment so it's not possible he'd of lied. It was also plastered all over the office on lil' posters "I will not lie, cheat or steal. Nor tolerate those among us who do".
Honesty written right there on the wall!!!!!!!!!!
Don't forget used car salesmen. Not a deceptive bone in their body.

I don't think the BMI is a criical issue. I was just at a terminal this past week and saw one guy who had to weigh at least 400 pounds easily. Pretty sure he was a student driver as he was begging another driver for enough time to wolf down a burger.

does anyone know what the BMI has to be under?

Unless I'm mistaken, Swift doesn't use the BMI. Yet.
At least, I haven't heard or seen anything about it on the Academy side. I've already gone through the Swift medical staff's DOT Physical.
