Do you have some profound insight that the Crete driver was "bullyed" into running illegal?

Navajo does NOT have forced dispatch. Their trips are planned by a planner. When a driver receives a dispatch he can reject it or accept it. He/she will have 3 loads to choose from. Once a driver accepts a load then a follow-up load is planned near the drop - etc. It seems to work pretty well for the driver.

Also - if you arrive at your drop early you can set up a relay, drop your load early, and pick up a load and keep running. Freight is slow right now, but when business is good Navajo drivers ALWAYS have the opportunity to run well over 3,000 miles per week. They seem to have a great system set up to keep drivers running. I've heard horror stories from drivers with larger companies (we know who I'm talking about) waiting 3-4 days for a new load, stuck in bumf**k nowhere.

The only major negative I have seen is that loading and unloading can take a while. With reefers there is virtually no drop and hook. The company pays lumpers - but we still wait an average of 2-3 hours per pickup or drop.

I hope this answers your questions. I'm new to the business and to Navajo, but it seems like a pretty good company.

One other thing I forgot to mention in my earlier post - The dispatchers leave you alone in terms of your 10-hour break, etc. They are strict on on-time deliveries, but how you get there is up to you. The times they give you to deliver seems reasonable. All that said, pickups and drops may be at 1:00 or 4:00 AM, or any time of the day or night. But the driver gets to manage when he sleeps and drives.

I do NOT and I'm VERY sorry for implying that I did. But I used that response a LOT when ANY dispatcher tries it.... Sorta like "Remember the Alamo"

However, I DO know that it changed Crete's policies regarding logging in a DRASTIC way. Crete now regularly verifies what your log book says against the Qualcomm. Not on a 1 on 1 basis, but QUITE often.

And when that change was made, no notiice was given to the drivers. Guys that had been "fudging" for years suddenly found themselves sent home for a week or two, by piling up 15 safety points in a single log audit. This is what I was told by VERY senior Crete drivers. BTW, I *never* fudge my logbook; THAT can put you in state stripes, if you have a accident while out of 10/14 OR 70. Or if you are in a place other than where you say you are at a certain time.

But the "bullying" thing does go on at some companies, and I will park the truck and walk away if even so much as a HINT of it comes up.

Finally I CAN mention Crete's good and BAD points from a personal standpoint..... I've been with 'em twice.

    Happy holidays

As a follow up to my prior message.....

The Navajo recruiter was a bit upset that I wanted to re-schedule my orientation until after the holidays. I apologize to her for being a pain-in-th-butt, but based upon the tone of her email to me (sorta snotty), I figured I'd gotten the answer I was looking for...... Navajo may have been a BAD choice for me.

However, I DO wish you all the best.....

I have been with Navajo since January and its not as good as it sounds trust me. When I signed on with them they told me I would be out from 10 to 14 day not 3 weeks at a time. Then when it came to me bein called into court they refused to send me home. They had me drivin as well when i was really bad sick. Then when it came time to get paid they took half of my pay for unknown reasons. When I asked them where the rest of my pay was they always told me wait till next week. NEXT WEEK NEVER CAME!!! They don't care about their drivers or take into consideration the families at home especially when there is an emergency at home. To put it plainly Navaho is a big joke. Don't believe anythin that they tell u cause its lies!
