Do you like the new hours of service regulations, or the old regulations?

I personally liked it the last regulations before the one we have now. You could split break so many different way and gave you a little flexibility. The way they have it now there is no flexibility and just creates people to lie on their logs even more. Not to mention you had the option to take a nap if you needed to on the last rules of regulation, but now they have it where you must drive all the way threw your day. This makes it very unsafe because drivers will drive drowsy just to not fall of schedule cause they can't nap if they need to. I personally don't need naps everyday but there are many drivers that do. Very unsafe the way they have the laws now. New laws hurts owner ops and help big corps

 

No if you stop at home for a couple hours, stop on your 14 hour mark and take an 8 hour break instead of 10; make sure you have the 2 hour break first, now you are split breaking, but really all you are doing is forcing yourself (which you state you like to do anyhow) is take a 2 hour break within your 14 hour. Now to do this you MUST know how to split break! Staying at home for 4 hours isn't a total loss, doesn't work as good as before, but you can stop for 2 hours to nap! Study split breaking!

I am have realized split breaking is probably safer because if you stop for a 2 hour break during your 14 hour, (eat & nap) then at the end of your 14 hour you take a 8 hour break! Now to continue driving you need to understand how to figure the 14 hr, but that is part of it! Learn the regulations well and you might realize they are not as bad as you think they are!

 

Very true but the flexibility in split breaking and being able to work it in a typical drivers day is gone with the new rules. Nobody said you can't split break anymore, simply there is no "flexibility" in split breaking anymore. If you figure in dock times and other things as such, you are unable to extend your day as you once did before.

I have studied and know the rules very well, They are simply nowhere near as safe as they was with the previous rules. Sure under a perfect load and a perfect example you are able to take a nap, but we all know when adding dock times and other such down times under the new laws you are not as flexible as you once was to pull over and take a nap.

That's all I was trying to say.

 

Yeah I know it isn't as good as prior to 10-1, but I encourage taking a 2 hour break within the 14 (get eyes away from the silly road). Your 2 hour break might be gotten at the customer? So it does work but no not as well! I wish they did have the old 5 & 5 back, it would solve so many of my problems, but most drivers still said no I am not split breaking, grrr. They are scared to learn it! MAKES ME MAD, cause it helps them

 

I like the 34 restart. Other than that I like the old way.
