Yeah, they really don't care there. The only reason that bar is there is because if the car parking fills up a truck that turned in that entrance would be trapped and have to back out.
Wal Mart...Shame On You!

I live near Huber Heights, I can't even park a bobtail on my property. They will come into my yard and tow it. And, it takes them about ten minutes before they show up, thanks to my stupid neighbors.
The land that the Target on I70 now occupies, used to be a huge truck stop. The Speedway station in front of Target even had a Cat Scale as late as 2004. The shopping centers developed around the truck stop, then pretty soon the truck stop itself, and now it's the most truck-unfriendly area you can possibly find. The last place you could park a truck in that area was the Wendy's directly in front of Target. That ended when Wendy's closed last year. now it's a big empty lot, looks pretty inviting, but don't do it....it will cost you $300.simplyred1962 Thanks this. -
I didn't read all the post in this thread, sorry if I repeat another post.
The Wal-Mart in Englewood, OH will tow the truck too. It happened to me. Luckily I got back out side before the tow truck driver moved. It cost $150 to have him drop the truck. it would have cost $300 if he would have left.
The Wal-Mart in Effingham is trucker friendly. They have a truck parking area at the North end of the parking lot. -
OK I been around some, and I can see your point of view about Walmart. I can also see their point of view big rigs weigh between 15,000 emty or so too 80,000 loaded their parking lots are made for cars not trucks! what happens too their nicely paved parking lots Pot HOLES the size of lakes especially in the northern wintery type places, say Like Kansas and Colorado. Its costs Walmart a lot of money too repave these parking lots. Now what happens when trucker Joe decides too go in and take out a car or god forbid a local resident under his tires... Law suit! Oh! and then my friend what about those nasty truckers that load up on their food and then leave their trash on the ground. Oh yes I have seen these nice pee bottles on walmart parking lots. I am not say all of us are nasty truckers but the one that are forces Walmart too put those bars up. Also, late at night most truckers are not their too shop they are there too sleep, since we are force too sleep 10 hours and nowhere too park! There are some Walmart that are catering too trucks I 30 exit 34 Hope Ark is one I love too stop there as they have a section for truckers too park and shop.

Yes Dave....I'm tired of it!
I'm also tired of drivers asking to be treated like scum because they behave like scum, Tossing trash and bottles full of piss out on the ground everywhere they park!
I NEVER get treated like scum!
I get treated with respect everywhere I go...But I carry myself in a respectful manner and treat those that I encounter with the respect that I would like to be treated with.
I've never had anyone do any of that to me either...
The O/P wasn't treated poorly...He took offence to barriers that were there for a reason and WRONGFULLY assumed that they were there to keep truckers out!
The are usually put there to keep trucks from damaging the thinner asphalt in the car parking lots and a driver that's paying attention will just go to the TRUCK ENTRANCE and park back there out of the way and do what he needs to do.
You can not dispute this statement.
I would be interested in some examples too Dave.
This is an excellent point!
This is a good point as well.
We drive commercial vehichles that require special testing and licensing to drive and that are considerably larger and heavier than most of the other vehicles on the road around us.
It is not discrimination to expect us to meet certain requirements and have a bit more attention paid to us by law enforcement if we don't do our jobs that way we're supposed to.
No...It's not discrimination Dave, It's commercial vehichle enforcement and it exists because the laws pertainig to commercial vehichles are much more difficult to deal with than the laws pertaining to the general public and therefore they require a more specialized law enforcement agency to deal with them.
I've never had that happen either Dave...Usually when it comes up in conversation that I'm a trucker people are somewhat fascinated and curious about it and most are respectful of what we do.
I shop and park in WalMarts all the time and have never been run off or asked to leave and that includes some thast have signs that say "NO TRUCK PARKING" AND "NO OVERNIGHT PARKING" I usually just go in and ask a manager if it's ok to park and where it would be ok to park so that I'm not in the way.
They are usually very nice and have no problem with me parking there and I write down the managers name so that if anyone questions me being there I can say I spoke to that person.
Another excellent reason for the barriers.
All good points!
But we are not forced to sleep for 10 hours we are required to take a 10 hour break...There's a big difference!
You can do whatever you want to during that 10 hour break and there are lots of good things to do if you have a little imagination.last 1, 48Packard and DIESEL DOG Thank this. -
anyone ever think this mainly to RV and Campers out, yes they do keep truckers out as well, but you can still access the store from the back.
-
I don't know if this has been said on here yet, but I'm sure that I have been in the store your talking about outside KC with the BEAM so trucks can't come in. But that is just to stop the trucks from coming in the front entrance where the cars come in, if you go around the side I believe they even have truck parking spaces lined off
-

The I 70 Truck Stop in Frederick, MD is now the Costco. The Servicetown truck stop in Fredericksburg, VA is now the Target.
There is a hotel behind the Costco that used to cater to drivers but I think that it may not be long in the world or it may still be there but the Frederick City government will ban tractor trailer parking there.
The Wal Mart next to the Arundel Mills Mall in Hanover, MD seems to tolerate truck parking but in a lot further up towards but behind, the Vitamin Shoppe building. -
The Servicetown T/S was the nastiest, most unsanitary pile of crap I had ever been in. Not a bit unhappy that it's gone.
