1.May Trucking and some of the larger will not hire you with a felony, I don't care what May tells you. BTDT years ago talking to them. Werner might hire you, but if they do they will keep you in the lower 48.
2. With multiple felonies (even 1 felony), your disqualified from a lot of things. You cannot haul 1st class mail, you cannot haul military loads (explosives, ammo, weaponry, but you can haul non dangerous loads), you can haul 1.3, 1.4 explosives.
3. You can still access the ports, however, expect a hassle for getting your TWIC card.
4. You can still get a customs bond and be covered under your employers customs bond. They will need to check
5. forget Canada, the process to get your Ministers Permit takes 2 yrs and the felony has to be at least 10 yrs old to apply for it.
6. don't bother trying to get a pardon, it costs $5,000 minimum and takes a couple of years, with multiple it won't happen
Does May hire people with felonies?

The Obama Administration would love to hire you. lol

Well in class today I learned that yes there are some very picky companies out there but most others even with what I have on my record may not hire me right out of school however if they see I've worked for another company 6 months to a year I have a way better shot at a job. Funny thing is judging by todays questions and class I must say I have about half the class beat on common sense despite any misstakes made 15 years ago.
Also my research on this forum and phone calls has impressed the instructor teaching the class as far as questions I have asked. -
You are wrong and right on a few of theses. You can haul mail if its thru an out source company.
You are right about Canada and a pardon is possible IF your fines are paid off. ( State Pardon ) I already tried but was denied due to fines not being paid. I figure my state refund can keep paying it off as the state withholds it OR until I find a job that pays well. It was 3k but now only 1800.00
As far as the TWIC Card http://www.tsa.gov/what_we_do/layers/twic/twic_faqs.shtm#disqualification
Recieving stolen property 15 years ago does not appear on that list.
You may be right on May but I can only go with what they told me, as far as Werner they won't hire any one with a felony. That means someone who has tendiences towards children and exposes their privates to a 4 year old has a shot at working there where as someone who purchased 7 pairs of oakleys 15 years ago does not....
Lets just say it as it is. -
3 Felony's, your probably wasting your money on driving school. The companies will not even get to what are they for. You also can not get a TWIC card, or access to harbor, train or military loads. It's not tough luck your are in a situation of your own creation, but good luck. -
You know I find that rather insulting giving a I strongly disagre with Obama and consider his adminstration a pack of progressive crooks. You're statement just furthers my arguement that society has no forgiveness towards people who did something stupid.
I can understand certain felonies being unforgiveable, murder, rape, sex crimes against women, children but common sense should tell you that despite my crime being a felony there should be some level of forgiveness with what exactly it was that I did... -
You can not run around blaming the companies, mistakes or not its not them that committed the crimes. So there choice is hire you with a unstable work history and a record, or hire a driver that has been working steady, and kept his nose clean.
You can not blame anyone except yourself. Now your paying the price thats the way it works. It is suppose to help discourage other from following in your foot steps. It suck's rightfully so. But if the earlier company you mentioned would hire you, all you should tell them is thank you. -
Okay, let me help you out. I have a class 5 federal felony from 1991. Now would you like to debate me on this subject?
1. I've tried to haul mail, even from an outsourced contractor, you cannot haul 1st class mail. The companies may hire you, but if the USPS finds out you have a felony, your done. They will not debate the subject with you.
2. A state pardon will not get you into Canada. Now you don't list what state you live in, but don't count on getting a state pardon. It is a long, drawn out, tedious process and your unlikely to get it. I live in Colorado, I've been looking into it for a number of years. Colorado in the last 50 yrs has only issued 4 pardons to living felons, but they have issued a dozen to deceased felons. Also, just because you have a pardon doesn't get you off the hook. A pardon in one state may not be valid in another state and it may not be valid in Canada. Colorado and 9 other states don't recognize a Presidential pardon, and will not even consider a Presidential pardon when reviewing whether to grant a state pardon.
Let me enlighten you to the process, and this is for federal:
1. fill out a 6 page form,
2. get fingerprinted and full background check at your expense from your local police (oh and the fingerprinting has to be done by the FBI),
3. minimum of 4 references (and your references better be impecable),
4. submit everything to the office of Pardon Atty. (last check, there was a 3 yr backlog),
5. undergo an FBI and US Marshals investigation including a minimum of two searches of your residence and a full investigation of your current financial situation,
6. submit to a questioning by the local US Atty. office
7. Oh and step A, before you get to step 1, hire an Atty. who is familiar with the process
8. Expect to spend at least $2,500 to $7,500 in Atty. fees.
Now, you can submit for a ministers permit from Canada, it's valid for 2 years. However, you must be employed by a company that travels to Canada regularly. For trucking (I've researched this), the company must have a spotless Canadian safety record for you to be considered. You will waive most of your rights if your issued the permit, and it can be revoked without notice at any time for any violation of Canadian law (including a minor speeding ticket or for that matter jaywalking)
Yes, you can get a TWIC card, however, I have heard of several people in recent years being denied a TWIC card with old felonies and felonies that are not on the list. So keep that in mind.
Werner is hit or miss. In '97 they would hire with a felony, then they changed it, then they changed it back, then they changed it again. -
Unclehams,
Forget Canada, it is not necessary to go there anyways.
You could land a job, but it will be sooooooo much harder, but it is possible.
Where abouts you located, what is your age ????? -
Even though mine is almost 20 yrs old, I've had a couple of eyebrows raised when I've loaded at Kirtland AFB and we're not even picking up important things.
